| will not work since it will only recognize dvd movies having a video_ts and a audio_ts directory and not data on a DVD. Does that make sense? Ive heard to put mp3 in the audio directory, but have not researched this enough. |

If I understand your question, you would like to create a DVD-R that contains MP3 files (easy enough) and that can be played on your DVD player (not so easy - even assuming that your DVD player supports files in the MP3 format).
While this may seem like the most logical thing in the world (having one or two DVDs that contain your whole ripped CD collection of 1000 CDs) as of 6 months ago, NO combo DVD/MP3 player that I could find supported MP3 on a DVD.
AFAIK, the reason is two-fold. One, the engineers take a short cut to determine what format is on the media and simply assume that if the media is a DVD then it must be a DVD movie and launch that portion of the embeded programming. The other reason is that the MP3 file management code on most combo units is very crude (many do not support ID-3 tags, full file names, more than 250 files on a CD etc) and are simply not up to the task of manipulating the thousands of MP3 tracks that could be on a DVD.
Whoever finally merges the Ipod capabilities with a portable DVD player (with a decent display) will have a winner. Whoever does that first for a car audio unit will have a blockbuster.
(If anyone knows if this has changed in the last couple of months please let us know) |
