BlitzSafe Installed - Click HERE for Original Thread

Got it from ron@se. Installed it right away. Hardest thing was to decide where to mount it, and run the cable to my jukebox. If that had been well defined beforehand the whole deal should only take 20min; so I hope this helps future installers. I placed it in between the stereo and glove compartment (btw gotta check with dealer, didn't see any gloves in there, just manuals), and dropped the rca aux jacks into the gc. I can keep the jukebox out of sight in the gc when not in use, no cables visible. Later if I get the right length cable, I can run it down the left outer side of the gc, drop it through the gap to the right of the gc's hinge, and the run it along the carpet/plastic seem of the center console to the console's storage area.

System check before putting things back together :29:
The radio required its code to activate it again, the navi didn't. The navi didn't loose any saved information either. Guess thats all part of the dvd drive unit.

Cool, Zafer! How does the Blitzsafe sound head to head against a cassette adapter? Is there a noticeaable sound improvement? I'm considering doing the same for my iPod! TIA!

Phew! Now that IS an install! -- the whole "face off." Is there a manual/resource that shows you how to take the whole audio system out... or was it slowly prying, yanking and pulling? I am tempted to fiddle around with the head, but I don't wanna break/scratch something when doing that.

Nice job!

This link may help with the head unit removal!

Sorry, I don't know, I've never used a cassette adapter.

Thanx! It is quite easy. Begin prying out the trim from the bottom, that is the slide-in part. Then slowly pull the rest out bottom to top with your hands, no tools needed. Disconnect the four connectors from the trim; hazard and interior lights switches, air bag light, and ac controls. The navi and stereo are attached together, held in with six screws. Once you un-mount the unit, you really don't have to disconnect it to connect the BlitzSafe. If you already know how you are going to route the cable, and have it ready, you can velcro the BlitzSafe right on top of the stereo behind the navi display, screw it all back in and your done.

Unfortunately I did install a few scratches too on the dash when the stereos brackets just "touched" it going back in. The darker of the two tone dash seems to be a thin coating only. My finger nail even scratched it while pulling the trim out. Anyone know how to touch them up? I was going to check crayola to see if they have a color close enough.

How about a carpenter's touch up pencil? You can get them at Home Depot.

zafer, that looks like it took a ton of confidence, and know how. I would be to afraid to even attempt an install like that, super job!

Don't be afraid. Japanese cars are easy to put back together cause their clips and screws etc. are meant to be used more than once. I guess because they own and manufacture most of the aftermarket stereo/dash stuff. Try this with most American cars, and you'll find the clips etc. were single use/one way deals. Once you pull them out, they break, or threads come off and they never hold tight like they initially did (and then there are those stupid $15/20 fitting kits you need to use). Regarding the ton of confidence, well all that came from this site ;) , so if they go jump off a bridge, heck, why not :p .

Here's a tip if you try this: Once you pull the display+stereo unit, protect the void's dash rim with some scotch tape or something. The metal mounting brackets stretch from edge-to-edge. I was sitting in the passenger seat, doing this alone. The upper darker part of the dash is just a thin coating. So when I was putting the unit back in, the brackets on the driver's side just touched the rim, and that was enough to scratch it:banghead:. I took a few photos to post here, but you can't see them in the pictures. Or you can have someone help you in the other front seat guide it back in without touching the dash edge.

Thanx, I'll check that out. I found a box of crayons at home (?64 color pack), and there were more than a couple colors thats seemed would match. If one actually does, I'll let you know.

Hey zafer where did you get that nifty work light. Look compact. Would have helped in my blitzsafe install.

Thanks for the advice zafer, I know about the thin coating, I was taping a temp. pass paper to my windshield (with keys in hand, having just entered the vehicle) and just touched the dash with the key and scratch it about 1/4 inch. The better half was not happy. :headslap: If you find the right color I would love to know what it is.

Great job Zafer! Maybe you could run a "how-to" clinic like they do in Home Deopt!:4:

Zafer,
Did you first disconnect the negative cable from Battery before installation?

No. I believe that will totally wipe out what you've got stored in the Navi. (someone correct me if I'm wrong please)

I have a '03 canadian x, serviceperson at my dealership says
I can't add an external cd changer to my in-dash changer and
therefore would have no input option for the blitzsafe. Yet my
audio unit seems identical to zafer's. can I or can't I ?
Warzau
Yep you can the blitzsafe connects via the input of the option OEM CD changer connector. You basically can connect anything if you get the RCA blitzsafe or a Alpine or Satellite Radio.

Holy crap! Now I know where that font size feature actually takes effect. If you were wondering too, check this out: http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/prin...&threadid=12423

So did I understand you correctly in thinking that you can install the blitzsafe adapter to the stock stereo with the 6 disk in dash bose system? I read all the posts on this stuff and it seems the only people doing it have the navigation or res.

Well a few weeks ago on the day the "interior leather" expert was there, I took it in for wrinkles on the front passenger door armrest, and he touched up the dash too. The tiny scratches and chip are gone now, and it looks like new. I don't know exactly what he used but service guy said its basically a dash touch-up coating/paint. Regarding the wrinkles on the armrest - they just replaced the complete interior door panel.

Ok, I just bought a Archos too. RockBox is awesome!
In any case can someone help me with an online purchase of the Blitzsafe adapter.

Hi All:

___The Blitzsafe doesn’t work with a RES and the accompanying CD changer on the 03’s. With NAVI, yes. With just RES, no :( My Blitzsafe is still for sale because of this oversight …

Hi Wayne, you've already got AUX inputs in the back for a game console that you can use to hook up a MP3 player. Some posted how they ran the wiring in another thread. See if that works for you.

Hi Zafer:

___Running a mini-plug patch cable back to the Aux inputs for an MP3 player via PocketPC is a ridiculous solution as has been discussed. The X-Box is connected up to the Aux inputs on trips and that is about all the aux inputs are good for IMHO. A Blitzsafe just doesn’t work with the RES only head unit so equipped in the 03’s which is the real problem :(

Can you use a blitzsafe to install xm radio with an 04 navi/res?

Just got my father an iRiver MP3 player and a Sony cassette adapter. I showed him how the cassette adapter works in the X. Then I hooked it up to the BlitzSafe AUX. Hardly a difference. Both sounded crystal clear. Actually the files weren't MP3, they were windows audio (.wma). Anyway, the only upgrade I've done to the stock system is to swap out all for doors with the 6002i. They are broken in now. I'm going to add filters to them though, way too much bass upfront.

I've seen a lot of confusing info here and on the web. Can you tell me which BlitzSafe unit you are using?

I've got an 03 touring (Bose), no NAV, no RES. Looks like you've got the same radio.

Thanks!
Diz
