Mine was "Candyman"

Saw it in an empty theater with my "then to be" wife. Would not do that again. . .

Sorry, the first one. . . not the second one

"Fatal Attraction"darn-near scared me to death when she popped up out of that bathtub!
HARDROCK
The original black and white version of "Night of the Living Dead". Saw it the same night I first saw "Easy Rider". The theater was supposed to be cleared after "Easy Rider" for a special midnight showing of the "Living Dead" but my brother and I hid from the ushers and saw it for "free" from the balcony. Not only was it scary, the hero (in a mixed cast) was Black - something I had never seen before and a big deal to a 16 year old black kid growing up in New York City!

The exorcist. I also liked What Lies Beneath...

You know what movie scared me? Signs with Mel Gibson. See... our house backs up to woods and everytime mother nature called in the middle of the night, I couldnt look out the bathroom window for two - three weeks. I'm such a wimp.

Exorcist

DaleB
A couple of scenes upon the first viewing of the first Alien, and also The Thing, 1982, had some great ones when the dog was transforming.
Robyjo
Probably due to my age and having never seen horror/slasher movies before, Nightmare on Elm St. (the first one) actually kept me up for a few nights after I saw it.

But the reigning still-raises-the-hair-on-the-back-of-my-neck movie that really apparently disturbed/scared me: SE7EN.

Speaking of which I just saw 28 Days Later and really enjoyed the frights, lack-of-effects, and statement on society...

Signs didn't do a thing to me, I lived in the urban jungle, but did you see the Ring? I saw the original Japaness version and when the ghost came out form the TV, that kind did the trick. Remember don't answer that phone. See the Ring if you have not and before I gave the plot away.
rjmitche
The Exorcist gets my vote too. I remember it scaring the sh*t out of me as a kid. :13:

Can't say that I've seen "Candyman"... might just have to sneak that one on the Netflix list and claim 'mix up' when it arrives :8:... "as long as it's here... I might as well pop it in the DVD player........."

That's was one of my favorite, remember when the first time he look down at the egg and than that spider thing jump onto his face. Man, I jumped so high, I don't think I came back down yet.

Definitely Exorcist. Surprised no one has nominated Psycho, a little before my time but the one by which all others should be judged.

Nope! Just scared hell out of me, as I wasn't expecting it! Never saw Exorcist, but did see Psycho, and must agree with the first Alien.

The ring didnt scare me a bit but it freaked my wife out. When we returned from the movie, I unplugged the cable connection and turned the tv. She didnt laugh and was a little pissed off.

Wow! Speaking of scary - LL, I also agree on the movie and I saw it with my wife in a theater (we were not married at the time). Not the thing to do to make her think the two of you will live a happy and safe life together:D That may have been the last "scary" movie we have seen together.

Ditto on the original Night Of The Living Dead. I saw it when I was very young and it scared me to insomnia. But I'm gonna have to vote for "Cujo". That damn St. Bernard scared the hell outta me!

The exorcist DVD version. I don't remember the girl coming down the stairs backwards on the movie theater version, that scene actually made me jump. (the kids too).

I was waiting for someone to say Haloween. Scares me to even think of that original. Too bad the sequels were so trashy. The original was the best!

This is the movie that still scares me to this day.

i guess it's just me but i don't think slasher movies should qualify... i like the ones that work primarily on your mind.

Thing is, I saw it as a child/teen. . . much scarier when you're younger

I remember a movie that I saw long ago called "Terminal Choice", it was about a fully computerized hospital, and the doctors had betting pools as to the time of death of their patients. Of course, the pool was fixed.......

I haven't seen that movie in at least 15 years, but that movie scared the hell out of me like no other I've seen!
Warzau
Is this it?

That's it!

Event Horizon and Wishmaster.

so THAT'S what it was!

also, i was rooting for the witch because i really hated those jerky, foul-mouthed kids...

That movie was scary based on the fact I originally thought it was real. . .
msu79gt82
Jaws has one of the all-time scariest scenes in it, but I would not rank the whole movie as the scariest. Tough call, but I think I'll say Alien. Aliens (first sequel) was just a great movie; series went downhill after that one.

I remember walking out of Apocolypse Now in a daze, saying
"the horror" over and over.
But I think the early (in my life) exposure to The Mummy and The Blob made them the scariest things I ever saw. I had nightmares for weeks after The Mummy.

Mine has to be the video of my wedding!:2:

Hi All:

___Every single movie mentioned so far is on my list as some of the best (or worst depending on the way you look at it ;)). I am surprised no one mentioned “The Amityville Horror” or “Poltergeist” in their own list? Since Image Code is Off, you can follow these two jpg links for the Movie posters …

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0...01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

and

http://www.filmsite.org/posters/polt.gif

___My all time favorite would actually be Orson Welles “War of the Worlds”. As a young boy (maybe 4 or 5), I remember watching that movie and it scaring the bejesus out of me. I have seen it maybe 38 + times in my life since and each and every time, I get that creepy feeling “Someone is watching” …

___I personally am not a “fright flick” kind of guy although you probably couldn’t tell by the excerpt from above but my wife insisted on picking up “Final Destination 2” the other night. Even though you know what is going to happen, the way in which it happens comes from completely out of the blue. How they shot the actual acts, I haven’t a clue but if you can get by the gore, I will add my slightly “off the track” vote for this flick being the scariest movie since “Signs” at least.

___Good Luck

No problem, take it from one with a little experience in these matters, he is obviously referring to an old wedding video staring an X-Wife....

Definitely original BLAIR WITCH. Pretense of real story/footage from advertising, web stories kept me on edge of seat. Felt bamboozled when truth came out. As such, I did not care to see BW II.
Guitarmdx
No, just a little self-depricating humor. If my wife was to ever see this, which she most likely would not, she would see the humor in it. We're not ones to take ourselves so seriously.

POLTERGEIST........The little girl in front of the TV and the midget-like old lady were beyond creepy.
HARDROCK
Just saw "28 Days Later...". It might rank high on future polls!
Skewbeedeaux
"28 Days Later" didn't do anything for me. It appeared to be a foreign knock-off of the original classic, Night of the Living Dead.

I just saw "Thirteen Ghosts" again tonight on one of the movie channels and thought it was more entertaining than "28 Days Later".
laborlitigator
I saw "28 Days Later" also. It was pretty much akin to "Night of the Living Dead" but it did have its moments. . .
