| I found a Sangria recipe that calls for a dry red wine. Can anyone recommend a wine for this purpose? |

| Wouldn't think you would want it to be *too* dry (nor too expensive for this purpose!) We have used Valpolicella with good results. |

| I did want to say "cheap" but that's what I had in mind. I'll try the Valpolicella and save my '97 Brunello di Montalcino for..uh..maybe cooking. (just kidding) |

That's the best thing about Sangria: being able to use cheap red wine. As a refreshing summer quaff, required to be served in big pitchers, it's exempt from a wine connoisseur's standards. A huge jug of Hearty Burgundy is a good bet.
Also, Sangria comes already made in a jug at most stores and then you can add juice and fruit to your tastes. Don't leave fruit in too long or it will all turn a funky purple color. |
