Just curious, why do people list all possible options they have on their cars in the signatures? Who cares that it has floor mats.

A good idea that got out of control?

A way to show off?

An expression of the American (or Canadian! or Taiwanese! or Filipino! or Scottish!) spirit?

A carryover from import hot-rod message boards that always show upgrade/custom features (he with the most, wins)?

Or, all of the above?

It's certainly not crucial reading, but I do like to see what members have in their vehicles. It also helps if someone's talking about the stereo, you know whether they saved money on the base system or got taken with the Bose.

Pet peeve: Why doesn't everybody post their location? It's not like you've gotta post your street address or anything. Just state or province alone would be helpful.

Hi Ostrowc:

___It adds a bit of personality to the MDX member for me. Does Plain Jane - John Doe with a bone stock Premium sound as interesting as TheyCallMeBruce or Manis1980 (as just (2) examples) w/ all kinds of interesting mods performed? How about TheWorm’s Panavise Cell Phone mount install linked in his sig or RJMitche’s ORG card thread linked in his? Both are very informative.

___I don’t know about you but it adds character from a two dimensional communication method in my eyes. I also like to see the lists since it helps when its time to accessorize my own! Well except for Captain’s sig which is … well, way over the top! No offense Captain ;)

___HockeyPlayer, who was posting like that? Ostrowc or yourself? That is some serious posting if I do say so myself!

___Good Luck

All MDXs are the same, so to speak, except for the add-ons, it is the mods that make the MDX unique. I suppose you can ban sig lines; but in the early days of this org the sig lines were about the car and not about the member.

I find a lot of the signatures informative but because I find a FEW a little too irritating I have them disabled. If I'm curious about someone's signature, which happens once and a while I'll take a look.

Hockeyplayer: I also had noticed the number of posts!!:2:

He is referring to ostrowc (now 57 posts since he joined on 7/7/03 - for an average of 25.66 post per day). At this rate he'll catch DaleB before mdxxxx does:eek:

But what if they're the most frickin' awesome bling bling Zaino X-100 treated floor mats the world has ever seen? Wouldn't that justify a blinking, scrolling, animated, 14-line signature with a 2500x1500 pixel Photoshopped mural and link to several separate floormat websites?

Just wondering. ;)

Yup!

And the beauty of signatures is that if you don't like them, you don't have to have your own, and you don't need to look at others'.

I would guess because it is an automotive board. I thought about ditching my sig, but I think it sometimes generates interest in that it shows diversity in automotive interests. Besides, if I know someone has a particular mod or upgrade, I might be inclined to ask that person about it. I don't think it is overbearing, but that's just me.

Excellent response, I remember I PM a user when I wanted to do my DVD mod and was directed to his installation. It came out great. Same as installing all acessories myself. Found out from other users it was easy to do and who to buy the accesories from.

They generate legitimate interest like here!

Hey BklynMDX how do you like the air freshener? I have seen them at Bath & Body Works (my wife loves the place) and wondered if they would perform as advertised. We just got a $10 off coupon in the mail and the wife is ready to go back there anyway. I even mentioned to her I may be ready to try one.

How well do you like it and do they work as well as it claims?

As others have said, the sigs show something different about each vehicle. A few sigs are a bit annoying but for the most part I like them. E.g. Many people have asked me about my Thule bike rack setup and have clicked on my sig to see pictures. So it's helpful to some.

It works great. The tiny scent strips last about a month depending on the setting. I felt Fresh Linen was the least "chicky" as compared to the other scents. And yes, I am secure in my manhood. :p

The one peev that I do have is that it really sticks out as you can see in the blurry picture below.

I was concerned about the lenght as well; I never thought about putting it in the rear outlet. Thanks.

I agree, this beeing an automotive forum, seeing "valid" addons, yes put them in, but, in my personal opinion, going out an buying floormats or mud flaps hardly constitutes an upgrade. On ther other hand making something or changing an existing design into something else deserves merrit and why not post that photoshop image in the sig.

Personally it never crossed my mind that anyone would take a look at the messages/day. I joined this board to ask some questions and possibly aid me in picking up an X some time this year based on peoples opintions. Nuff said.
msu79gt82
... rear flaps were NOT standard on the '01s and not everyone has them. In the early days the MDX was so new any add-ons were considered valid; I guess not all add-ons are valid on '03s and beyond.

ostrowc
You are missing my point entirely. In the purist sence, any addon that either was available or not on a particular vehicle or an aftermarket component which was added, is an addon.

Question lies, is it important to put that in a signature, that's all.
People get carried avay and place a lot of useless info in the sig.
A floor mat is a floor mat, everyone knows what it does and its pourpose.

On the other hand if the application is different ie: "Modded floor mat placed inside door pannel reduces vibration at highway speeds." Sure, instead of floor mat, put door-mat in the sig. People might ask how you installed it, what was changed, what was modded, how you attached it, with what, best way to modify it, precautions etc.... at least that generates interesting topics of conversation, instead of 'Duhhh how do i install a floor mat????'

No doubt these sort of questions will help you with your future MDX purchasing decisions.

I realize that you are only using floor mats as an example in this context but, if you search around this forum, you will find numerous threads about floor mats:

For instance... some on comparing different brands:

And.... even one about "how to install a floor mat" (Duhhh ;)):

My point being... while you may not find this kind of information "interesting" others do. You have the option to ignore threads/posts you don't care to participate in. Many times I've seen the following in a post:

"Hey [insert username here]... I notice from your sig that you have the [insert accessory here] on your MDX... how do you like it?"

You know, keep all of those extra OEM parts in a box someplace safe because in 30-40 years the most valuable early 21st century MDXs will be the ones that are totally stock and original. :29:
