Burning BMW Seats? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Here's a weird one. . .

I was driving my daughter to camp this morning and she is sitting in the front seat. All of a sudden, we both see traces of smoke starting to rise from her seat and smell smoke burning.

Immediately, I tell her to get off the seat and go into the back seat. However, there is nothing on the seat and no sign of any burning. Really weird.

I get back into the car this afternoon and I find a burn mark, I presume from the general area that the smoke had risen from. I'm assuming there is a short in the car seat, maybe the heater.

Any suggestions?

I'll post a pic later on.

Hi LL...

First thing I thought of was a seat heater short. I'm no mechanic, but I'd check to see if there's a wire connector to disconnect, or a fuse labeled "seat" to pull out until you get it to the dealer. Better safe than sorry. I'd hate to see a great ride like an M3 ruined.

Coincidentally, a coworker just got a red M3 convertible with all the toys. I tried not to drool on it, but it wasn't easy.

I'm presuming it's the seat warmer. I'll be bringing it into the dealer. Thankfully, it's not the M3.

e46fanatics is a little too radical, technical, and childish for me all in one shot. No offense to any of those members as I am registered there as well. I use it in a pinch, but I prefer the more laid -back approach at www.bimmerfest.com. Just tell them that Patrick330i sent you! :)

I used to hang out at Roadfly, but I don't like how that board is organized. Topics scroll off the main page very quickly because posting doesn't send the topics back to the top. Also, a lot of toadfly members have defected to bimmerfest, including me. I think you may find what you are looking for at the 'fest. Good luck!
