I get my MDX tomorrow. I'd like to install the following accessories. Any ideas on how many hours labor we are looking at so the dealer doesn't take me for a 'ride'?
Wood steeringwheel
Side steps
I'll get the parts from Hondacuraworld at a discount. |

They charged me for an hour of labor ($89.00) for the wood steering wheel. I've installed the steps myself but my guess would be no more than two hours of labor. Call the service dept to make sure before you go in.
BTW, you can get the burlwood shift knob and the plood for the dash with the money you save if you install the steps yourself. ;) |

| Yep. Same for me. An hour for the steering wheel. I did the steps myself. I agree with BklynMDX, do the steps yourself and save some bucks. They're really pretty easy.:D |

When I first got my wood steeing wheel - from Tim of course- I called a local Acura dealer and was told it would take "well
over 2 hours" to install and would cost about $200 in labor.
I then downloaded in the installation instructions from this site, stopped by a local body shop I know of and, after reviewing the instructions they told me it would take "no longer" than 30 minutes -20 if they rushed it, and asked sheepishly if $35 was too much to charge.
They did a flawless job in just under 30 minutes.
Lessons learned? Acura dealers still continue to gouge whenever and wherever they can. |

my salesman told me it would take 5 hours to install running board. called service department and found out that it will take 1.5 hours to install one. and their price was about $8 higher than what the salesman was saying: "since we are not giving you any discount on the car, i will only charge you the dealer cost for the running board." i guess the meaning "dealer cost" is different than what they paid for the product. stupid salesman. never trust them.
call several dealers' service department (or part dept) including the one that you are dealing with. tell them that you have an mdx already and you want to install things. |

| Don't have Acura install, labor rate to high. Go to a Body Shop for installs. |

Hi Keremoner:
___Welcome to the forums and congrats on the new X!
___As far as installing accessories, I also went to a trusted local body shop for the wood-grain steering wheel install. Just $30.00 and it only took ~ 20 minutes. Bring your NAVI or Radio codes because they do disconnect the battery and you will need the codes to use them afterwards. The Side Steps are simply too easy to throw money away at your local Acura dealer. Hire your children, neighbor, neighbor kids, nephews, landscaper, or whoever because it is an hour and a half tops if you do it yourself! In fact, it is probably the one item in which there is no way to screw it up except for placing the steps on backwards. Just follow the pdf document you can pick up from Tim, line up the step pads to the doors and your set.
___Good Luck
