| Well my mdx was 3 weeks old and took it to a so called brushless car wash and all my wheels got all scratched up oh well I learned the hard way |

| It's not the brushes that will do it, it's the track you pull into. They'll do it to you every time. Avoid car washes and do it yourself. If you have a good wax/sealant on it, washing takes almost no time at all. |

| It's not your fault at all. We have had claims paid by car washes in the past, I would go to them and have your wheels replaced. Any scratches on the wheels themselves also makes Acura's corrosion warranty on them null and void because there has been damage to the wheel's protective coating. |

So then my Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish isn't the right polish to use? :) What's your recomendation, Tim? |

I like the Mother's stuff a lot myself. That won't void a corrosion warranty, only curb rash and things like that that actually scrape the clearcoat off will affect it. But, since there is a clearcoat on them, you're not actually polishing aluminum when you use a cleaner, rather you're polishing clearcoat. Not sure how effective Mothers will be in that circumstance, usually it turns black when it's working and taking the tarnish off. But, if I am correct, Mother's works rather by chemical reaction than by abrasiveness (thoughts?), so it's not a big deal.
FYI, watch out when you use wheel acid, especially on warm wheels. Squirt them down with a hose first, and make sure not to let the acid bake on the wheels too long or the clearcoat will bleach and dull, depending on the strength of the stuff you use. Usually, it won't toast the finish unless you let the acid dry on the wheels. |

| This may sound excessive, but I have found that in the long run it is easier for me to wipe all my wheels down every 2-3 days (especially the XK8 which I do almost every time we drive it). I just use one of the many quick clean type products. Currently I am using the Meguire's Quick Detail spray. |

| Having worked at a Jaguar dealer for 5 years I know how murderous the brake dust issue can be with the XK8 wheels. If you have the 17" ones and your car is a pre-'99, you can order brake dust shields from Jaguar, they cost about $18.00 each and are well worth it. Just make sure you take some good heat paint to them before you put them on because the original black finish will burn off in a thousand miles or so and they'll look silver. Did you get the PIVOTS phone in yours? |

| The XK8 is a 2001 and we got the 18" wheels and Contisport tires. The good news is that with the smooth finish on the wheels the dust wipes right off. And no we didn’t get the phone. The dealer really didn’t say anything about the phone option and we didn’t inquire. I had since presumed it was a Europe only option. |

The contisport tires are probably a good thing because the Pirelli P-Zeros would go 12K at best, Jaguar will buy you a new set if you complain about premature tire wear.
Give me a call sometime and I'll tell you some good insider stuff to know. I don't wanna take up too much space, after all, this is an MDX forum. And look at that, I'm a SENIOR MEMBER! WOOHOO!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D |
