I have this crazy project to upgrade my non-NAV MDX with a nav system from a wrecked MDX! This brings up the issue of the anti-theft code. Is this code associated with the display unit or the brain? Is it possible to get this code from a dealer given the car's VIN number or do I need some other proof of ownership etc.?
I have so far identified one navigation brain, but not a display unit yet! |

| To followup on the previous question, could someone with access to the 2001/2002 ETM verify that the standard (non Bose) radio supports the navigation voice input and the connector pins. My 2003 ETM only shows NAV voice input for the Bose system. (In 2003 NAV is offered only with Touring)! Pins A11,A13 and A14 are used on the Bose system for this purpose. |

You enter the code on the touch screen, but that is pretty much the "keyboard" of the Navi system. The rom that has the "secret code" burned in is in the 'brain'/player.
I would guess that you'd need to supply Acura with the Vin and they have database of "codes"... |

Have you talk to any trained Acura Technicians about this project ?
because I am thinking about doing the same things.
How much do you think it is going to cost? |

Thank you renov8r! I would have to agree with you, that if the code is entered via the touchscreen / display it is most likely embedded in a ROM( EEPROM) in the CPU unit. I would assume then that there is no processor in the display unit?
Based on the schematics, the only digital interface between the display and the CPU unit is a two wire serial bus - one assumes that the touch screen input and the switch inputs are multiplexed on this serial bus. The climate control interface (3 wires) is on the display unit.
This of course brings up the issue that the display is not really protected by the anti-theft code! |

Wiring looks the same, with the same pin numbers for Bose or non-Bose. However, in the Navi diagrams, I see no "A" with ANY pins 11, 13, or 14, but -- pins labeled 11, 12, 13, and 14 on both types of audio units are connected to the A10, A1, A9, and A3 pins of the Navi, respectively. |

| Thank you Frostyra. This confirms my belief that the standard Alpine Radio can indeed be used with the NAV for voice prompts! The pinouts on the NAV unit seem very different for 2002/2002 models compared to 2003. I would have assumed the same basic architecture with an additional connector for the microphone and Rear camera! - it appears that Acura has chosen a very different platform for 2003 with an entirely different connector pinout. I will post the schematic for the navigation connections from the 2003 ETM! |

I have just recently bought a 2001 MDX that had light damage and I had to get it repaired, however the audio system will not work. The anti-thef light just keep blinking. We called an Acura dealer and he said that we had to pull out the radio and give him a number off the back of it. We did this and he gave us a code for the radio. We followed hid instructions to enter the code but it will not work. It just keep saying error 2 ..error 3 and so on. If antone know how we can fix this problem, we will appreciate it. .....By the way its the Bose Audio system with the six disc in dash changer.
Thanks |
