| I just returned from a week in Wyoming where I rented a brand new 04 Mitsu Endeavor. After 850 miles of driving I found it to be a very capable and well executed SUV...especially for the $$$...at least 10k less than my X. Numerous features such as lots of space, auto lights, split rear hatch, quieter highway ride (even at serious speeds) and amazing mileage...21 avg. On the negative side, the dash looks like a 16yr old designed the center pod, the motor is not in the X league but still very good...The tranny has a nasty habit of rubber bounce shifting when nailing it to pass but otherwise is a typical 4 speed modern box. The 6 pack in dash CD player is a bit fussy as it tried to claim 2 of my CD's I brought along...but I won! The only other incident was a nasty creak in the chassis behind the firewall while cresting a couple of steep hills while turning...not too confidence inspiring...Although I have noticed movement and noise around the top of my X's windshield where the mirror/rain sensor is while doing the same maneuver. All in all the Mitsu was the best SUV for the $$ I have rented ...but I still wish they rented X's ! |

If those were city miles I would agree. With 850 miles in a week I assume most were highway miles, if so not so good for the lower HP engine. My MDX gets much better than 21 MPH when I'm on vacation with mostly highway and some city miles.... |

The mileage was as high as 26...but it was a varied mix of off road, small town ('city') and hwy. including a lot of mountain roads...I failed to mention the temps were 100+ every day with 108 being the high twice...Also this mileage was achieved at average altitude of 5,500'...up to 8,800' The X would have struggled to get 18....
