As you can see by the post below, I got my dealer to match hondacuraworld's price for chrome side steps, but is $255 sound high to you for the installation? Any drilling involved?
It looks like this site offers the side steps @ $445.00 for the parts only.
We can match this price will our customer be installing them himself or will
we be installing them? If we do the install, the labor will be
$255.00.Please let me know and we can set an appointment that would be
convenient.

You should try them yourself, or take it to a body shop, etc.
You can download the instructions here:
www.hondacuraworld.com
No drilling!!!
Anything over $100 is highway robbery in my opinion. |

| No drilling involved, just nuts & bolts (but a lot of them). I did it myself; about an hour. |

| Do it yourself and save $225. You will be happier, trust me. The job is simple, the only thing is laying on the garage floor and tighting the bolts. Give yourself about a couple hours to do it with a break in between (you will need it). |

I installed by running board by myself. It should be same installation as of Side Step. It took around 1.5 hour.
You should install it by yourself and saved that $225 for something else. |

This is a good thread.
So when I order my MDX and order the sidesteps, is my stealer going to want to charge me this kind of fee just to install them?
My neighbor has an MDX and he cautioned me to buy my MDX base and order all accessories through hondacuraworld and then do the install myself. It sounds like the sidestep install is doable.
The roof rack comes with the touring package, right? So I only need to worry about the bike attachments for the rack as an accesory. Are those easy to install as well. TIA! :) |

Hi Twosomeca:
___Who knows what your dealer is going to charge but they are more than likely not going to give you as good a deal as you can receive from Tim and they are not going to install them for free. You may be able to negotiate the steps into the cost of the vehicle but you will still be paying more because you should have received ~ $600.00 or more off the price you are willing to pay for the X if you didn’t have the dealer install the steps in the first place. The only thing you receive when the dealer installs them is a warranty for the length of the X’s vs. 1 yr. if you DIY. As everyone that has installed their own knows, installation is child’s play. If you want to pay your dealer $150.00 an hour, go ahead but it has to be one of the largest profit centers available to them. Another fact … your steps are more than likely not going to be installed by one of the certified Acura mechanics as they probably have work more in line with his or her capabilities like diagnosing, removing, reinstalling a broken piece on whatever Acura happens to be in the shop. Your steps will more than likely be installed by one of the guys that wash the cars. Do you know what they would pay them? You got it, ~ $8.00 - $15.00 per hour … Just a thought before you get killed is all. I mentioned this in another thread … Have you kids, nephews, neighbor’s kids, neighbors, landscaper, or whoever install them if you feel you simply can’t grab a wrench and install them yourself. They would most certainly enjoy the cash and you will have twice as much to spend on taking the family out for a weekend of fun at your local amusement park or similar.
___As far as the differences between the Premium and various Touring trims, there is quite a bit more than just roof racks. I am not persuading you to purchase one or the other but I suggest that you take a very serious look into the various trims before you make your purchase is all.
___Good Luck

| Definitely do it yourself. Its quite simple and it doesnt take that long. I'd say about 2 hours. Lots of screws and bolts but its worth doing it yourself. |

it's extremely simple.. either do it yourself or pay the neighbor kid $50..
1.5 hours is about right... it does help to have some sort of scantily clad female to hold up one end while you're installing the other end - highly recommeded, but not totally necessary. |
