I have a base model 2003. I did not want the touring package so I had to forego the navigation as well.
Is it possible to replace the trip computer with the NAV ?? If so where and at what cost ??
Thanks all.

This is a common question posed on this forum, and the consensus seems to be either impossible or impossibly expensive to retrofit an Acura navigation system. I am in the same situation as you and have been researching this issue - no satisfactory solution yet! Your best bet may be to just buy a Pioneer navigation system (around $1500) and get it installed. My main concern is that there is no suitable location to mount the monitor, and the trip computer also houses the A/C manual controls, and cannot be removed. I don't want to do extensive hacking (to relocate Trip computer) on a brand new MDX!

If the vehicle is the same vehicle except for in the base model you have the trip comp. whereas in the NAV models you have the navigation WHY can't the trip computer simply be replaced? How is it different than if I had the NAV and my child smashed it? The two instruments should be interchangeable? Where am I going wrong in my thinking? Please help me see the light. Thanks.

Use the SEARCH function of the site. You will be amazed how many people have encountered your same dilemma. There are some interesting ideas. For the record, I do not believe there has been 1 successful navigation retrofit using the OEM Navigation unit into a Premium model. Good Luck.

Here are a couple of the many links

And even if it was 'plug n play' it is not sold that way. You have to buy all the ocmponents that make up the NAV system. The cost would be prohibitive. The Touring option would seem like a bargain in comparison.
Yes, in the past we have looked up individual parts and their cost out of curiosity.

Considering the continuing interest in this upgrade I wonder why Acura has not marketed this as an add-on accessory! I am sure they can make a decent amount of money by selling the unit and the wiring harness as a package! Perhaps some of the Accura dealers can impress on the company, on this opportunity - and make some money on the installations as well!!

I have looked at what is involved in detail, and it is no harder to install than a stereo upgrade given the parts and proper wiring harnesses! (Not including the rear camera!)

Hey keremoner,

I was wondering if you have made anymore progress in this area ?
I have a 03 Touring w/Res and I am now wondering why I did not put out the extra cash and get the Navi as well ! I was also wondering if anyone else has put in an aftermarket navigation system. I would like to see pics of the install and monitor location and get an idea of price.
