What I want to accomplish: Complete video solution - including Navi to Video conversion, DVD player, headrest monitors (perhaps VizuaLogic), etc.

What I need help with: Who (in the Bay Area) and How (what components are recommended - I have not purchased anything yet).

Talked to a couple shops already and neither have ever performed the complete (NAV) conversion. I don't want to leave anything to chance and am hesitant to entrust anyone who is not familiar with all that is involved. Please advise if you know of any professional/knowledgeable/reasonable installers where I can have all my questions and work completed. If only Ron from Street Effectz was in California.

2001 Granite X,

What part of the bay area do you reside?

mdxxxx,

I live in the South Bay (Milpitas), but understand if I need to drive a "little" to the East Bay, Peninsula, etc.

I live in San Jose and was looking for an "experienced" installer to do my conversion as well. I just bought an '03 X with Navi and RES and I wanted to view DVDs on the Navi as well. Have you guys found anyone in the Bay Area?

Unfortunately I have not received any solid leads. Hard to believe for as many people who have already accomplished this conversion (through this forum - I'm not including many more through the TL forum), that there isn't a recommended installer in the Silicon Valley. May need to give it some more time.

I have posted info on NAV conversion and audio system upgrade in the past. I'm in Hayward, and used a store calls Street Beat in Hayward. Excellent result.

Either do a search (using my name) or PM me if you want additional info.

i'm having the dvd/tv tuner with back up camera installed today on my 2001. i'm having it done at monney car audio in san bruno, but they also have a store in redwood city.

It cost $550 for the install plus extras (i bought a 0 lux camera for $425 that mounts into the bumper). I bought the equipment from ron@se for $1k which included the dvd/tv tuner, rgb converter, camera, antenna, and switches. i hear there's another converter available from sam's video that's more plug and play, but you don't need the converter with the 2003 according to ron.

for an additional $1300, monney will put 8" screens in the driver's and passenger’s head rests.

if you're interested, i can post pics.

By all means, please post pics of your results! I'm not familiar with the specifics of either Ron's or Sam's kits, however will inquire. Are you planning to install the headrest monitors as well? By the way, has Monney ever performed this conversion?

i'll be getting the X back this afternoon. chris @ monney told me he did 3 X's and 1 TL in the past 3 months. i wasn't gonna do the headrest monitors cause my son is only 10 months old and the dogs don't care. it's not a problem adding it later, however, when the baby gets older i would prefer him to play the license plate game vs. playstation or watch dvd's, but i may change my tune.

here are the pics of the back up camera and dvd/tv tuner for my 2001 mdx which was installed by monney car audio in san bruno, ca (talk to chris the front man who will give it to juan the installer who will consult henry the tech guy if there's a problem). what i liked about this install is that the camera is almost flush with the bumper and it looks like a little pee hole.

the resolution is not the greatest, but it's good enough to watch

the switch to go back and forth between the dvd and the navi screen is on the steering column.

Nice! You must be jazzed to have these new toys installed after having the X for a couple years. Perhaps you can post pics of the tuner and a screen shot of an image from the camera. So was the total expense approximately $1500, including parts and installation?

sure, i'll post more pics tonight.

i have spent about $2k, but only because i bought another camera. the camera i originaly bought with the kit was the bullet kind. when i saw the peep hole one at monney, it set me back another $425. i would recomend getting all the equipment from the installer which would run about $1500.

the dvd player is under the driver's seat. the ir sensor in inside the left center vent.

they forgot to install the switch that turns on the camera whenever i want. i have to go back for that.

the electric brakes i've had for a couple of years now. i tow a 7x12 enclosed trailer back and forth between SF and soulth lake tahoe on occation. i'm gonna bring in the trailer so they can mount my extra camera to it's back so i can see behind me when i tow.

the motorola hardwired hands free kit i've had for a while too. i spend a lot of time on the phone.
