does anyone know any code to free panasonic dvd players from the region restriction? i have this japanese anime directly from japan and cannot play on my dvd player.

Did anyone hack any brand of yours and working?
also is it illegal?

(hey, if you answer both yes, you might be in trouble ):D

Why hacking?

I am sure you can find and purchase a DVD player that has no region code restrict from internet. :2:

I am not aware of any hacks for Panasonic, but I am sure if you do a search, you will find one. Otherwise, you can purchase a very inexpensive Apex model and hack yourself (very simple) try this link as a start http://www.nerd-out.com/darrenk/

I think RatShack has been having a clearance of some under 50 dollar players that can coded upon powering up making them open to all regions.
I thought it was reported on here recently, but a good Google search can yield some interesting results.

i was looking for upgrading the chip or entering code from remote control. I searched the web for several hours a weeks ago and landed on a site in europe that let you rent a master remote control to set it free. but they dont ship it to US. they said i have to buy a chip. So i guess you guys just bought region free dvd players. But thanks for the replay :)

The one at Radio Shack you put the code in via the remote, but you have to do every time when powering up.

here's a link to Cyberhome players, the ones RS is selling cheap. I am not sure exactly how you perform the decoding, but they still have these players for sale. They do not have them available online from RS.

lucky philips owners. philips players can be hacked with their own remote (might avoid warranty).

I have two Apex models (AD-1500 and AD-1100W) that I've flashed with the region and macrod-free ROM as well as my own customized backgrounds. I've even given some out as gifts to friends and family. I used nerd-out for all of my purchase and re-coding information and found it to be a great resource. My AD-1500 gets far more play than my Sony and I've had that Apex since November 2001. No skipping, no audio desynching - just great. I made a BBQ mix MP3 CD that I use the Apex to play as a jukebox to my outdoor speakers. Just set it to shuffle play with the on-screen menu and listen for over 10 hours to the 183 songs I used.

I hear they are also great for playing VCD's and SVCD's one might find on the internet if one was so inclined to do.

The hack is burned to the player's BIOS using a CD-R with the hacked code. It takes only a few minutes to do. I have no background in electrical either but a tenacity in putting one over on "the man".
