UPDATED 10/19/04
Many Have asked how to resize pictures. Usually you can use any SW to do so, specifically the one included with you Digital Camera.
But we still get images that blow out the margins in the forums.
Please post pictures that are 800x600 or less. To find out the dimension of the picture, right-click it and click on Properties. You will see Dimension. In order to resize a picture, you can either use the paint program that Window gives, or if you have XP, you can use Window’s Image Resizer.
For Paint: Click Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Paint
For the Resizer: Download it from Window’s PowerToys Site: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...s/powertoys.asp (Found on the right side of the screen)
In order to post pictures, you need to upload your pictures somewhere. You cannot upload them from your own computer. Some of the websites you can use to upload and link pictures are:
They do require free registration. Even though Imagestation is probably the best photo hosting site online, they have some special things to consider:
1) For some reason, sometimes they don’t allow you to link pictures. If that happens, host your pictures somewhere else.
2) When you link pictures, make sure you take off .orig.jpg at the end of the link. (Will discuss this later)
Alright, so once your pictures are uploaded to some site, how do you link them to your post?
1) Right click the picture from the hosting site, and click on properties.
2) You will see the address to your picture (Address URL)
3) Copy that address
4) On this site, when you are posting, click on the Img button above post box.
5) Paste the address after that and click on the Img* button. It should look like this:
http://www.address.com/picture1.jpg
Do this for every picture you want to post. Please just do it in the same post. For instance:
http://www.address.com/picture1.jpg
http://www.address.com/picture2.jpg
http://www.address.com/picture3.jpg
6) This only applies if you’re hosting from Imagestation: If you see .orig.jpg at the end of the
address please delete it.
7) Now hit submit and there you go.
Easiest way though if from your computer, when you start a thread there will be a opition to upload image from you computer. You would click on browse and locate the image you want to upload, if you stick to the dimensions here it will upload fine. If for some reason if fails it is prob because the file size is too large. Also to post more picture you can reply to your OWN thread and follow the same procedure. There isnt any need to start a new thread for each picture ( has happened before)
I will update this as time goes on. I will add more links if I find some. I encourage you to reply to this thread if you find another site that host pictures for free. Also, if any of the links I gave are dead, reply to this thread or PM me and I will find out whats going on. |

| I use the Windows Picture It program or recently acquired AC/DC Program. They both work excellent. |

| I use Microsoft photo editor. It works fine for me. |

The fastest and most efficient way of resizing pics IMHO is using the Windows
XP Powertoys
Just right click and specify the size... |

I posted this in another thread but, it's relevant here as well. I use the XP Powertoy myself but, this tool might be useful if you aren't running XP. The good thing about tools like these (as opposed to things like Photo Editor, Picture It, Infranview, etc. - which I also have/use) is that the only thing these tools do is resize pictures. So... they are pretty simple to use if that's all you really want to do.

Ran across some free software for resizing digital pictures that might come in handy for some of the members here.
http://www.virtualzone.biz/resizer/
From the readme:
quote: Welcome to JPEG Resizer!
JPEG Resizer is a powerful tool for Microsoft (R) Windows (TM) which allows you to resize lots of JPEGs with just a few clicks.
It's packed with various advanced features such as Anti-Aliasing, Colorization and selectable JPEG Compression Factor. You can choose between four different resizing methods, specify how resized JPEGs should be named and where they should be stored.
If you shot photos with a digital camera at a resolution that is too high for presenting your photos on the internet, you need to resize them. JPEG Resizer makes this jobs quite easy as you don't need to resize each single image for itself.
No installation or special files are required to run JPEG Resizer. Just run the file "resizer.exe" - that's it.
If you like this tool, feel free to redistribute it - but please inform us about the redistribution and include a link to our website (see below).
Enjoy ;)

I haven't used this utility myself yet but it appears to be fairly easy to use. (I use the WinXP Image Resizer Power Toy that can be found here.)
Anyway, here is a screen shot of the resizing options: |

Man, thanks for the great info everyone.
I finally posted my first pic yesterday using the attach file button on the bottom. Had resize pic to 320x240.
So let me see if I have this right.
If I wanted to post a larger pic like 640x480, I would need to have my pics store on my own web page.
Can someone confirm
Thanks:confused: |

It isn't the pixel size, it is the files size.
I use Adobe Photoshop Elements, Crop to what I want, Resize to 640x480, then save for web and choose an appropiate quality to balance the size and detail. |
