I have an old set of Boston Acoustic RC Speakers that I'm trying to install into the rear my base 2001. The speakers are much deeper then the stock speakers, and don't fit into the rain guards. Anyone have experience doing this? Did you have to cut the rain guard? There are pretty good instructionson doing front speakers on the site, but i haven't found what I'm looking for for the rear.

BTW, I pluged one speaker in and compared it against the stock speaker, and I heard detail in the music I have never heard before. However, the volume needed to be turned up more. Its was incredible! I can't go back to those nasty muddy stock speakers.
Thanks in advance!

I am pretty sure it would be the same as the front. I think they are identical speakers. I put Image Dynamics up front and had to cut away the rain guard. Did not hurt a thing. I have not installed the speakers in the rear doors yet but, everyone says it is the same.

did you cut away the back of the rain guard? is there an issue of the back of the speaker is exposed?
Thanks.

In order to make my speakers fit, I had to cut the entire basket out. I have not had any problems with rain or water although, you could install some of those foam baffles to protect them.

Okay, I'm an idiot. I just did a search on "Rear Rain Guard" and found more then enough information on installing deep speakers. Don't know why I didn't think of that search earlier. No wonder only Slackass responded (thanks!). Sometimes there's so much information on this site, its tiring to read through when you just want to drop in some old speakers!

Anyway, I understand I have 3 options:
- Cut the rain guard
- buy a spacer
- create my own spacer.

Off to try now!
