What do you guys use to detail the wheels so that the brake dust doesn't ruin the shiny look? Thanks

Use a good spray that is safe for coated or painted wheels, and apply with the wheels COOL.
Most everyone has their favorite.
I find using Zaino as I polish the car, makes the brake dust quite easy to remove, most of it with a hose and a simple wipe with a soft cloth.
EXCALIBUR
keremoner,

Try a mixture of 3 parts Simple Green to 1 part water in a spray bottle for the wheels. Wipe the wheel and tire surface clean with a damp cloth. For that finishing touch, apply good ol' Amorall to the tires.:29:
HARDROCK
I use Windex on my chomed 2002 Touring/Nav wheels.

Initially Zaino'd with Z2 and use a seperate bucket and wash mit for the tires, wash with Z7, comes right off.
Dale MDX
MDX owners that have never owned an Audi or BMW don't really know the meaning of brake dust. With those makes, if you drive a couple of hundred miles after cleaning the wheels, they'll have a easily visible buildup of black dust. With my MDX, in comparison there's essentially no dust.

As far as how to take care of the wheels, do it just like the rest of the car. Wax the finish. (It's clear coated, not bare aluminum). I've found that plain water, without even using soap, gets everything off. I only do the car wash soap thing (on the whole car) maybe once a year.
crmsnidol
After my initial spray to wet the MDX I go around and spray Simple Green on the wheels, exhaust pipes and chrome side steps. Let it sit in when you are washing the rest of the car and then just wipe the parts you sprayed. Works great.
greatscot
Griots Garage Wheel cleaner. Works great.

P21S makes a great strong, gentle wheel cleaner. But if you just have standard factory rims i doubt theres any need to use P21S. I just use Simple green (dilluted) too.
Wazowski
I use Windex, which I also use for the chrome side steps.
