Inventory of what is Leather and what is Vinyl - Click HERE for Original Thread

I checked with the folks a Lexol and was looking for an all in one product to care for the various surfaces in the X, to no surprise the answer was we need to care for each type differently.

Like most things, there is really only one right way to do things. Lexol-pH Leather Cleaner can be used to clean all of the vinyl and leather but that is where the shared stuff ends. Leather oils are for leather only and vinyl protectant is only for vinyl, rubber or plastic.

So does anybody have a good inventory of what is really leather and what is not?

I don't know much about the difference but I use Meguir's leather cleaner on the X.

The cleaner is generally ok, it is the conditioner; oils for leather, silicone for vinyl.

I read elsewhere on this board that if it's perforated, it's leather, otherwise it's leather-like vinyl.

Is it that inconsistent? I was wanting this thread to be useful for any owner...

Well in my case, 2003 touring.

I don't think that is correct.
The headrests seem to be partial leather (the part that touches you head is leather) and the perf on the doors seems to be vinyl.

Actually it looks to me like everything is vinyl except the top side of the front and middle row seats, the top side of the arm rest, and the front part of the headrest (and the back if it wraps around from the front as one piece).

Personally I was very disappointed in this. Nearly everything that looked leather was leather in my Volvo. The exceptions being the 3rd row rear seat and the door inserts. It also seems like the leather in the Acura is almost plastic coated and I wonder how that is going to wear. My 5 year old Volvo with 125K miles almost looked new inside with the exception of a bit of wear on the drivers left hand bolster from sliding into the seat.
Somehow I don't think this leather is going to hold up as well. I hope I am mistaken!

Acura have done this for years, I guess by skimping on leather they can offer more value in other areas??

I've used Lexol on my entire seat with my CL since it was new and now on my other Acuras. They look OK so far but I wonder if I'm doing more harm than good!!

Well, after 5 years I think you would notice. I don't think either requires constant attention. Nothing worse than abrading leather by rubibng treatments into it along with a flim of dust and grime.
Regular vacuuming and wiping up with clean damp cloth keeps most the interior maintained.
Using lexol, etc. one every few months is sufficient, at least based om my experiences.
I'm sure if you had a vehicle like convertible, exposed to the sun for extended periods, more care would be indicated.

I use Zaino leather cleaner and conditioner on both the vinyl and leather. I discussed this with Sal a year or so ago when I bought the products. He advised using on both and I have. Both are satiny, clean and the leather is nice and soft.
I would highly recommend the Zaino leather products.

I will second that recommendation, Zaino leather products are great, and very easy to use.

I will third the recommendation, Zaino leather products are superb, and you have to love the leather smell they leave!

Thanks for this post. Things can get so complicated that it's good to hear of a simple solution that really works.
