| I am looking to add a trailer hitch to tow my Harley. I see it is recomended that you put the trans cooler and stearing cooler on. I think the total weight with trailer and bike will be 1200lbs. is it really needed and do I need to go with an acura hitch and what am I looking at. |

If it were me I would get the coolers. You can get a very good deal from Tim on the OEM hitch and coolers at this site: http://www.hondacuraworld.com/. The hitch is a snap to install, but you'll need to remove the front bumper to install the coolers. If you're not mechanically inclined, try your local Acura dealer or body shop or local mechanic.
I got the Hidden Hitch and didn't install the coolers because I am only using the hitch to haul some bikes every so often. Good luck and let us know how you make out. |

Sorry -- on a more serious note....I just got back from a 4,000 mile trip (took my TL this time) and I saw lots of vehicles on the side of the road with trailers. I would guess that a number of them were due to tranny problems, especially the ones where the drivers were looking under the hood and under the car to 'see' what was wrong. I kept thinking about the coolers and decided that when I install a trailer hitch, I'll get the coolers even if the initial expectation is to pull something relatively light -- might as well do it right to begin with. I'd hate to be one of those stranded motorists. |

I am using my X to tow my Harley from time to time. Towed it from Wichita, KS to Austin TX, to Columbia SC and back to KCMO in June. I have the hitch and cooler package that Acura offers on mine and did not have a single problem, especially in the heat of TX. I would recommend that you put the entire towing package on, because you never know when you might have someone else that wants to add a scooter to the trailer. Not sure what you are riding but mine rolls in at about 700lbs or so (FXDL) once you add saddlebags, windshield etc... If you want to put a "Denture Glide" on the back you are well over 800lbs. Would hate to see you break down on the side of the road. Just be prepared for the "You tow a Harley with an Acura" crap from fellow riders. I always get a kick out of it. Good luck on your quest for the proper towing package. BTW, I did not, repeat, did not trailer to Sturgis. I road like any self respecting Harley man would. 815 miles in one day. Now that is a ride.
