After our third long trip (2700 miles) I finally learned some things that I thought I would pass along. I haven't seen these mentioned yet.
1) I was always frustrated that when I had a route input, I could not look around for other destinations, like restaurants. I could do some commands via voice, but whenever I pressed the menu button, my only options were route related (like cancel or detour). Well a bump in the road caused me to hit the menu button twice and then the normal menu came up. This may be in the manual somewhere, but it is very handy to not have to cancel the current route to look around.
2) Although I had seen it, I really learned how to take advantage of the "key word" search. It is often very frustrating to find restaurants etc. if you don't know the exact name and the keyword search works great. For example finding a Starbucks by exact name is tough, but searching for restaurants/all categories/keyword "Starbuck" and then distance to travel is much easier.
3) What the little arrows mean. I feel really dumb on this one. When you search for things and get a list by distance, the little arrows to the left of the name show relative direction. So if you are looking for a Starbucks that is on the route you are travailing, pick the one with the arrow that is pointing up, now down.
I wish I could learn how to do the following (they might not be possible)
1) Compare routes. While coming from Pensacola to St. Louis I wanted to compare two different routes. I would like to say "take 55". The avoid roads gets close, but I would like to do what maquest can do and create a trip through destinations. The "today's destinations" get close as well, but I can't get total miles from the destinations combined, just the first leg.
2)What are the little icons on the map that look like a little square with a flag on top?
3) Future expansion. Ability to ask it for the closest "thing" on my current route. For example. We like Bob Evans. I would like to say, within 4 miles of my current route, where is the next Bob Evans?
4) Ability to save routes. I like saving destinations, but I would like to see how we came home or how we got there last time.
Hopefully this helps some people get more out of the Navi. On the whole it is my very favorite part of the MDX and well worth the cost (Touring + Navi). |

| I'm just guessing... could the squares with little flags be schools? |

| Yes, it's the icon for a school. |

Thanks, Rottman. That's a useful feature that I didn't know about either! I always cancelled my current route if I wanted to access the normal menu, but I don't need to do that any more now! :2: |

| Thanks Rottmanj, that is some useful info. My wife is the primary driver of our X so I don't get a lot of chances to play with the Navi. I would like to expand my knowledge of it more and some of your tips will help. |

| Saving routes and setting way-points would definitely be good features. |

| That's cool, you think I could somehow go to the dealer and get a navigation added on? |

Not the way to go. Would be very expensive. Makes more sense to get an after market navigation system (can use in all vehicles you own) or trade in your 02 for a 2004 MDX. The trade in would probably cost only a little more that what it would cost to add the navigation to your 02 and you will have all the new goodies on the 04. |

Can you do this with the 01/02 Navi? Seems to me NO. If you hit menu twice it cancels the route.
