I'm getting an Alpine 5 channel amp soon for my premium X. The alpine amp doesn't have high level/speaker inputs. I'll try to install myself. A few questions:
1. Are all Line Level Converter about the same or some are better than the others? Any recommendations? What do you think of this unit? http://www.thevideodoctor.com/pages/HSHL-2.htm
2. Is there multiple channel LLC or do I need to use multiple units?
3. Do I need to convert the signal to the subwoofer's amp input or it is already line level? I already installed the Polk subwoofer with Xcel.
4. Could some body with the service manual please post a wiring diagram for the connector behind the non-Bose (Alpine) head unit.
Oh, I'm getting the Alpine R-type component speakers for front speakers also (currently infinity). Thanks

From my experience most inline converters are the same.

If you are doing a 5 channel amp then you only need one set on RCA cables.

If you do a search on this site for wiring diagram then you'll find it.

I just recently installed my amp and ran the in-line converter from the stock amp under the gear shift.

Here is a picture.

May be I have to wait until I receive the amp to find out how many converter I need. I still don't get how I only need one set of RCA while the head unit has outputs for front/rear left/right speakers. I think the premium model doesn't have the amp under the gear shift. The head unit outputs directly to the speakers except the subwoofer.

Typically: keeping the stock head unit, you only connect the converter to on set of speakers and that’s the rear. There is a separate amp for the sub in the sub compartment but that won’t matter using a aftermarket amp.

Ahh! That's another idea. I'm going to use 2 converters for front & rear speakers and by pass the OEM sub-amp. The Alpine amp (MRV-F450) has 50W x 4 @4 ohm plus 150W for the sub so I don't need the amplifier from the head unit at all. I did some searching last night and looks like the Audiolink converter is the best ($30 at crutchfield). Thanks

I heard from a few members that the signal before the Bose amp is line level. All you need to do is find those wires and put on some RCA connectors on the end.

On many multichannel amps, sometimes they can take one input and distribute it to the rest of the other channels. Or you could use a Y-connector and divide the signal in two (two left, two right). This makes an easier install but you loose the fader capability on the head unit. But you could adjust the front to back levels with the gain. If you use your fader to adjust frequently, I'd stick with finding the front and rear signals.

Hi Purdue, when you get it installed, can you shed some light into your install. I have a non-Bose system too. Pics would be great.

thanks
