I just bought a 2003 MDX and would like to have a professional install the system. The dealer refererred me to Dealer Works that use the Vizual Logic product. They quoted me $2200+tax for the 2 headrest displays. That is pricey for me. They recommended not to do the flip down monitor on the MDX because of the moonroof structure. Any opinions or suggestions? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum and congrats to your new ride :2:

Welcome oracleman, congrats on the X purchase, post some pics. If they recommended no flip down screen (why I don't know?, the factory screen is flip down, and many .org members have installed flip down screens) then you could go with headrest monitors.

$2200 for JUST the two headrest monitors?

I had two headrest (7") installed into my X for $1,300. I did have to provide the PS2 to play the DVD's. Do a search, you'll see the install.

As for the moonroof, my installer also suggested against it based on the fact that the screen may be too close to the 2nd row. As for the secureness of the dropdown, the installer told me he could make it secure if I really wanted the dropdown.

HUH?

Sorry Ron, that was a previous installer I was referring to. I still went with you guys.

BTW, thanks for the advice on the rear A/C. It was perfect!

Thanks guys! The price that I got is for 2 headrests, DVD and two wireless headphones. If I can get the headrests system at $1300-$1500, I will go for it. I live in Sacramento, CA so I don't know if the dealers that you recommended are here. If anyone knows any in Sacramento, let me know. BTW laborlitigator, your kids are very lovely! If someone can show how to attach pictures here, I can have them up once everything is installed. I am a novice at this! Once again, thanks again for all the inputs.

For me, the deal breaker for the ceiling mount model was the loss of rear-view mirror use when screen is down!:3:
A member recently posted a pic of this, but source escapes me at the moment. Aftermarket RES with Navi conversion is still on my tweak list. Vizualogic headrest is my frontrunner.

Sacramento. . . sorry, I can't help you there. As for the pics, make sure you shrink them down to 640 X 480 and save them as JPEG.

I just purchased a SONY overhead monitor for the MDX, and this discussion has got me concerned! How bad is the loss of rearview with the monitor - if this is significant I would rather not install this and go for a seatback version instead!

Would someone who has a SONY overhead or similar care to respond?

Thanks

Here's a RES through rear view mirror. See pic on 3rd post down.

Takes up way too much real estate for my liking...

If I'm not mistaken, just don't get a screen larger than the 7" and you should have some room to see. Anything wider would definitely block out your rearview.

That's my pic from the driver's position looking back with monitor down. I have no problem with it nor my wife who's 9" shorter than me and sits lower. Plenty of view to the sides and the best part is that I can see under it which was a concern.

Nothing should distract away from true situational awareness while driving. Always check your mirrors and know who is around you and you'll be fine.

Thanks everyone for the input. I've decided to go with the flip down monitor. I just bought the Sony Dream System (7" monitor) and will have it install this week. Once everything is done, I will post some pictures here.

Hi All,

Please NEVER come closer to Dealer Works. I had a BIG mess when I had my system installed by them. They messed up my SRS light (stay ON), told me my DVD player is not compatible with the monitor, sold me an overpriced player (leave the wife at home when taking the X to any shop). The power plug and game plate fell off after 2 days. I complained they want to keep my X for another 2 days to fix. I would not leave my X with those incompetent monkies to work on affraid of they will mess it up more. Took my X to dealer complaining SRS on they fixed it. Dealer Works is the WORST installer. Stay AWAY from them

If you do a search you will find those same headrest with all the wirng and a dvd player for $1300. I purchased them and installed myself, completly worth it. I just need to find out how to convert my navi screen to watch dvd's. Here's the link.
