Special thanks to John L. for donating me his exhaust for free. He is very generous and very knowledgeable about this subject. Here are some pics I just took;

Sweet, have you noticed any performance improvement? Any issues with the hitch?
manus1980
All the pipeing has been replaced all the way up to the cat. The exhaust isn't much louder but much deeper, I really like the way it sounds. The exhaust alone may have added another 10hp. I think I'm around 300hp now so it drives a lot differently then how it did when I was stock. I went up against an FX35 and a Jeep Grand Cherokee so far and I had to leave them behind. I have no problems with the exhaust, it is great. The guy that makes my intakes did the exaust. It is all light weight aluminum with very few bends. All the welds are rubber coated so they shouldn't rust. When the car is in park it sounds much different in a good way. Had some people take notice.

Manus. . . nice!

How much to hook me up with a set up like that?
XStatic
Any chance of a photo with a big mirror under the car to see how it was run?

LoL good idea. But i dont think manus is lying.

EDIT: After staring at it I think it might be. under the left exhaust there seems to be some sort of distortion.

Hi Manus1980:

___Weren’t you going to get your X dyno’ed in the near future? At least get it to the track and give us some ¼ ET’s to drool over ;)

___Good Luck

Very nice!! Looks great!! Please if possible post some pic's of the undercarrage, so I can see how the custom bending of the pipes looks. I very interested in modifying my system also for some additional horsepower.

I don't doubt the install is real, a while back he was looking for an extra muffler to do this project. I like it and wanted to see how it was done, I am not asking for proof that is was.

I think the ECU is still adjusting because the engine seems a bit deeper and more responsive then it did this morning.

Sorry everyone but even if I could get a camera under there I don't want to post pics of the undercarriage. Perhaps I can send some pics to a select few members who I know if requested and meet others at meets. I don't want the pics all over the net giving any shop owners a blueprint to the layout profiting off of my friend's design. Building a good exhaust that actually improves performance is difficult because it takes knowledge of fluid engineering or something like that. The guy who designed my exhuast isn't an engineer but was knowledgeable and very experienced and put time into creating the design and finding the prime diameter. One tip is that use only mandarell bends otherwise kinks in the pipe will cause a loss in potential performance. If anyone thinks this is photoshop or just looks I don't care.

Find me a shop that can dyno AWD in North Jersey and I'll try to get it done. Also if there is a track around North Jersey I'll get the 1/4 time and post it.

For those considering such a change, keep two things in mind:

1) On most vehicles, the Cat is the most restrictive part of the exhaust system. If you maintain the stock Cat (which you must to remain legal), nothing you do downstream will have a major impact on performance; the vast majority of the exhaust back pressure on most vehicles is from the Cat.

2) Changes that you DO make to the exhaust system (including anything done to the Cat) will change back pressure and thus, effectively, F/A ratio. This in turn, requires a retuning of the ECM to gain the most benefit from the decreased restriction. As an example, some have fitted the less restrictive exhaust from the G35 coupe on to the G35 sedan. Subsequent dyno tests have shown an actual LOSS of horsepower at WOT of approximately 3... But it DOES sound better. Without verifiable dyno numbers, almost any modification FEELS stronger !

For technical reasons, the ECU can not dynamically compensate for such changes at WOT, only at lesser throttle settings.

Modifying the CAT is illegal and you won't be able to pass emissions. I asked him to remove the cat and I got a quick "no, no, I can't do that." The whole setup didn't cost me much because of generous friends like John L. who donated me the extra stock muffler and the shop owner who did it mostly for his passion for cars.

-Some info I found about an aftermarket CL exhaust:
Wide Open Performance Mufflers that outflow OEM chamber style mufflers by as much as 167%. This reduces engine heat and backpressure and improves exhaust scavenging from the combustion chamber. These mufflers minimize the power robbing effects of the OEM system to restore torque and horsepower to the engine. All tubing is mandrel bent and maintains its shape throughout the bend radius to further reduce backpressure and improve exhaust flow.

Went to a party last night and the driveway was on a steep angle. At the end of the party I delibertly backed out real slow so everyone could hear the exhaust and it was great. People came over and were staring and knocking on the hood.

Again, if you're insterested in this subject get in on the carbon fiber hood group buy. The shop owner won't make them unless 8 more members get it on the deal.

Sweet! Now you have quad exhausts like the X5 and Cayenne T!

It looks GREAT!!!!!

I hope you will post one more set of pictures in day light condition.

Manus,
Dont give into the pressure. What you have done with your ride is great. Sometimes you have to let others figure things out. I personally would not spend all that money to do this, but that is just me. My Harley on the other hand has some extensive engine mods. If the 04s have dual exhaust I am sure that it can be retrofitted to 01-03 some how. Also, any "Fast and Furious" car shop can fit a dual exhaust to a car if people just want the look. People need to remember that any engine modification can not be done alone to gain substantial engine gains. Front to back need equal attention. Pistons, exhaust, airflow, jets/injectors and so on. Keep up the good work Manus, and when you can get that thing to smoke tires on the track or do a wheelie, send us all a pic.:)

I am having it also done next week. Its not as bad as i thought. The cost to do it me providing the mufflers its $250 Cat Back. I'll post some pics once i get it done

Nah, I doubt that. Im not hating or anything, but you are nowhere near 300hp.

Why dont you take it to englishtown, NJ to run it. If you have 300hp you should be running around high 14s. An extra 60 hp should knock off at least a second of the 1/4 time.

I also dont think your exhaust with a CAT produces an extra 10hp, especially with stock chip settings.

Newbie? I read your weak ass signature. I said you defintely dont get an extra 10 hp from your exhaust. Read MY post more carefully. Don't talk sh** online man, hiding behind your computer screen.

Secondly, I said that you MOST definetly dont get an extra 60 hp from your minor modifications. Man, you still have your CAT and stock chip settings, and you think you have near 300hp? You dont have any idea what you're talking about. Do you know what it takes to get an extra 60 hp? No, obviously not.

Like I said, run your car at Englishtown, NJ, and tell me you got 300hp. Enough said.

Without timeslips or a dyno it ain't worth argueing about.

Manus does not seem like a goof, adding worthless nicknacks. His air filter adapter is one of the nicer pieces available.
His mod to the exhaust looks as good as many factory systems.

I think you'd need to invest ALOT to get the HP up by the 30% he is targeting, but you never know...
manus1980
I don't have a stock chip, I mentioned earlier I have a V-aft v-tech piggyback. Aftermarket chips and piggybacks don't do much unless you have a turbo.
Sorry for calling you a newbie, didn't know it was going to make you upset. That is the trem they use to describe new members on the other car forums. I thought it was funny when they hit me with it back in the day.

Manus,
The one mod that I've really noticed in your signature is the "lightweight pistons" . Now you can bolt on lots of aftermarket stuff like underdrive pulleys and intakes, but you have to pull the engine and completely dismantle it to swap pistons. That's when I figured you were probably serious.
