I installed a Sony XPlod amp & sub per the pic below & ran into a low voltage reading of 13.1, anyone know if this is normal, my friend says 13.8-14 is what's expected by the amp off idle.

Anyone use a capacitor for a solution.

thanks

That's a typical output from an Acura alternator

That's good to know, thanks. At least I know all's well. Now I just need to see if I should do something about it - current effects on the amp & all, this stuff gets beyond me real fast.

Daffy,
I wouldn't be conerned about the MDX alternator output. I'm running two Alpine MRVT420 340 watt 2 channel amps and one MRDM500 500 watt mono sub amp and have never had any problems. The mono sub amp is hooked up to a 1 Farad capacitor.

R,

Normally I wouldn't, but I'm using Sony XPlod amp & they are finicky about voltage. When bridged it draws heavy current to make up for the voltage & I get a over-current shutdown on the amp. On another amp this probably wouldn't happen at all, but the Sony's look for a 14 volt sweet spot apparently.
