Fender Flare Blunders - Click HERE for Original Thread

I recently purchased an '03 MDX at Curry Acura in Scarsdale, NY, with dealer installed fender flares. Upon inspecting the car before taking possession, I noticed that the black rubber molding which is normally around the rim of the wheel well was missing, such that the clips from the fender flares were clearly visible in the rear two wheel wells. I asked the service rep. and he said that's the way its done and he never puts the rubber molding back on. Soon thereafter, I showed my vehicle to a friend at work, who happens to be a new MDX owner and had also recently installed fender flares himself, purchased from Hondaacuraworld web site. While he was checking my vehicle out, he noticed the lack of rubber molding and showed me his install which had placed the molding cleanly over the fender flare clips. He showed me offical Acura printed install instructions which clearly indicated to put the molding back on after the flares are adhered. Here is the link:https://hondacuraworld.hostasaurus....enderFlares.pdf (See instruction No. 19 and illustration above) After much back and forth over the phone with the service rep. (which my friend took part) they agreed to order the moldings and install them. They recently did the job and to my utter dismay, they put the molding on completely wrong. (I wish I could illustrate all this with pictures.) As best I could describe, he wedged the complete molding in between the fender flange and the fender flare so the clips were still showing. When I saw this, I brought it to his attention and suggested that this couldnt possibly be right. He said that is the way the instructions show it. My friend and I disagreed and due to the need to get back to the office, said this issue would have to be continued at a later date. Within one weeks time, the idiotic method he used caused the flare to start pulling away from the body, such that you could see the adhesive lines everywhere. I brought it to another dealer (Adzam in bedford Hills, NY) and he said he never puts the molding back on, but when pressed for an answer to "what is the right way," he said you could do it either way. Since that time, both my friend and myself have examined other MDX's with fender flares and have seen some with molding and some without. However, all that had it, had it down like my friends - - over the clips. I advised Curry that it was done wrong and am going back next week. My friend has offered to install the molding, in what he says should be a 5 min job.
I would desperately like to know what others have done with this molding and also thought I should advise those newbies, who may have not even noticed their install was missing the molding.

Curry Acura has a bunch of idiots overthere if they did not install the mouldings correctly. As someone who has done the mouldings himself, the installation (although time consuming) is clearly delineated in the instructions. I'd demand that they install the flares properly or send them a bill for your friend who had to do it for you.

Laborlitigator- Are you saying that the black rubber molding should go back over the flare clips? Thanks.
