| I've heard the brand name butchered before. I think I have it right (#1), but do I? I would bet in Japan they pronounce it like #2. |

Hi TheWorm:
___Is that pronounced HON-dah with emphasis on the first syllable or is the emphasis on the second syllable like hon-DAH? Maybe you should start a poll ;) <-- This was a totally useless post.

George W. Bush pronounces it "a Q ruh." It's just like "new Q lurr" (nuclear).
Also sounds similar to fingernails on a blackboard. :rolleyes: |

| Probably a derivation of accurare, to do with care, and therefore ac·cu·ra and not a-cu·ré-a although being japanese it could be ah-ku-rah. |

The Japanese named these special Hondas in the U.S. as Acura...we pronounce is "ACK- KOO-RA"
In Japan ACURA means acurate/Precise.
When Acura was first launched in the U.S. its company motto is "Precision Engineering by Acura"
Hope this helps. |

Latin is almost always the real root...
accurare = to do with care
ac = to
cura-re = to care for
cura = care |
