Porsche extends the breadth of the Cayenne range with a new six-cylinder variant expected to be priced well below $50K. The first V-6 ever offered in a Porsche produces 247 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 229 lb-ft of torque at 2500 rpm. This engine will be offered initially with a six-speed Tiptronic S, to be joined next calendar year by a six-speed manual transmission. Porsche claims this Cayenne will run 0-60 mph in 9.1 seconds with a 133-mph top speed. Although a more affordable SUV, it will still pack the Porsche Traction Management and Porsche Stability Management systems that give the big V-8 versions such impressive all-terrain ability. The ride-height-adjusting air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management will be available. Pound for pound, this may be the best Porsche value since the 924.
Although not as quick as the X but if you want to buy a Cayenne and doesn't like the V8s sticker price, this is the one you'll go for. |

| What a disgrace, a Porche slower then your average Windstar minivan. I can see it now, a grandma in her Seville pulling up to the a Porsche and blowing the doors off without even being aware the Cayenne driver means business. |

You are right. A Porches that is slower than a Corolla, people would think that's a joke. They should add a turbo to back up some power from 260 to 280 hp. But if you only buy it because it's a exotic brand, it is quite worth it. I mean, it's still a Porches. |

| For less money, you get more performance with the VW TOUAREG. |

A v-6 suv is not beneficial to their name or reputation in the long term. |

Couldn't agree with that more. Actually, an suv in general is not beneficial to their name or reputation, especially among the Porsche fans who liked the marque for it's racing heritage. It's all about the bottom line now for Porsche... |

| If I paid big $$$$ for one of the V8 versions, I don't think I would like a much cheaper version coming out within a year that pretty much looks the same. At least the pilot looks quite different than the MDX and differs substantially in content. |

Out of curiosity, did you consider the VW Toureg with the V8. I believe there is a $20,000 savings.
Same platform and similar performance.

And if you like their entry-level-mainstream v-6 suv, then you'll probably want a 4-door sedan to go with it....

By DIANA T. KURYLKO | Automotive News
FRANKFURT — Porsche AG — a name synonymous with high-priced, high-performance vehicles — is considering a downshift into more mainstream sedan segments for its next model range.
The so-called fourth Porsche now under study by the German luxury sports-car maker likely will be positioned well below the company’s current range, CEO Wendelin Wiedeking disclosed at the Frankfurt auto show last week.
“We are thinking about a fourth model range, and we have good ideas,” he said. “But if the car we have in mind comes to the market, we will have fewer friends than we have today,” he joked, a reference to the competition the car would pose to other automakers. |

PUHLEASE!!! what? Porsche finally figured it all out that you can't screw a customer over for 80K-100K for a Cayenne and now they have to put in a small little 911 engine to get more customers to buy their SUVs?
Said once and gonna say it again. Porsche...stick to what you are good at...MAKING FAST Sports car...Leave the SUVs and cross-overs to others that know how to target SUV market.
Besides. The Cayenne is an fugly vehicle. |
