Are the '03 stock tires the best for the X?
I mean for road noise...ride...handling...?

What he said. The Michelin Cross Terrains are a really nice tire.:4: |

| Yea - Those are some of the best SUV tires out there |

OK the factory Michelins are great in the snow, they are pretty quiet, and they last forever. Also they probably contribute to optimize fuel economy (rolling resistance, etc).
However, handling, braking, acceleration results are CRAP. They just stink in that respect. |

Agreed, but as I notice that you are also in the Mass area, I am sure you can appreciate the tires ability in snow after last winter:29:
Unfortunately for me, after we received delivery, it stopped snowing :( so I didn't get a chance to play in the snow:2: |

| They are some of the best too. I used to have them on my touring rims never had a problem |

| Some members said Michelin Cross Terrains are more noisy than Goodyear Integra(?). I don't drive in snow day. Thus, I'll stick with Goodyear for my next tires. |

NOKIAN WR XL 235/65R17 108V
For those who missed some of the previous posts on this Nokian WR Snow tire.
I'd like to summarize by saying these are GREAT snow tires with excellent traction and handling. The tread is rated for 50,000 miles for speeds up to 140MPH. They are the identical tire size as the Michelins and GoodYears that come with the MDX (235/65R17).
I purchased these tires after extensive research. I then found a wholesale tire dealer Meadow Creek out of Colorado.
http://www.meadowcreektire.com/nokian/index.htm
phone#800-222-7360 (out of Colorado)
(pricing from 12/9/02):
Nokian WR 235/65-R17 rated V (140 MPH- 50,000 mile tread warranty)
$133.95/tire X 4= $535.80
+ S/H Fedex Ground $60.36
For a Total of: $596.16
I picked up Acura MDX OEM rims off of eBay
Driving in the Snow has been significantly enhanced with these tires from Finland.
Others on this forum seem to be equally enthralled.
The Nokian WR is the next generation of "All Weather Plus" tires, replacing the wildly popular Nokian NRW .
Nokian testing shows the WR offers significant improvements over the NRW in areas such as snow traction, slush-planning, and especially wet braking, without sacrificing the ride comfort and long tread life that Nokian customers have enjoyed for years.
The Nokian WR carries a "mountain/snowflake" designation, which means it has passed the industry testing for severe winter driving and so it is officially a winter tire. But with a 50,000 mile treadlife warranty, and luxurious quiet ride, many of our customers drive the tire year round, saving themselves the expense and hassle of changing over their snow tires each year.
Due to the exceptional snow and ice traction provided by the WR's unique tread compound and tread design, these tires must be used in sets of four to help ensure proper vehicle control. |

I didn't either. But my brother did. He told me the car handled the snow phenomenally well. My 2 friends with identical 4.4 X5's with sport package both told me that the car SUX in the snow. I'm like "DUH, what do you think? Your AWD system can cover up the fact that you have 285mm wide rear tires and that they are Z-rated? Hell no!". |

| My boss has a X5 4.4 and spent over $1000 on tire upgrades (recommended by the dealer) and she's impressed with the handling in last year's NY snows. I don't remember what tires she got, but the originals that came with the vehicle sucked though. Her SUV turned to an SUX where the rubber meets the road. |

| After 42K on my Cross Terrains, I bought 4 new Bridgestone Dueler HLs for my X. They appear to ride quieter then the Michelins and have a nice road feel. The Michelins seemed squishy to me. Dont ask me how, it just was a feeling for me comparing the tires. The Michelins served the vehicle well. Tirerack.com has an article comparing the HLs and the Cross Terrains. Might want to take a look at it. Nothing negative about the tires. I guess if someone really needed the snow traction then the Cross Terrains might be a slightly better choice, but there were no complaints about how the Dueler HLs performed either. |

How much do those tires run? |

That's due more to the restricted tire size, which is the result of the restricted WHEEL size. Go with a wider 17" wheel, or larger overall wheel then you open up numerous tire options.
For the given size, the Cross-Terrain is about as good as a tire gets. |

It's also as FRENCH as a tire gets. For me, I'm not sending any of my money to France in the forseeable future.
I appreciate the alternatives discussed in this thread. |

I could care less how you want to spend your money, I was only stating a fact with regards to the given size of the MDX wheel and tire combination.
Here's a website to help you in your cause..

Hey Timbrwolf,
I paid $135 a tire for mount, balance, lifetime balance, valve stem, and road hazard. I got them at a Firestone shop. You can get them at Tirerack.com for $103 but then it will cost you for the rest of what I mentioned plus shipping. I like them so far. No complaints. |

Can the Acura emblem go in aftermarket rims...you know if they have that center cap...
Why doesn't Acura have 18inch tires like the Lexus...from time to time I ponder why I was so impatient and didn't go for the Lexus...but then I remember that Lexus is semi flashy status symbol for the nouveau riche :p |

Hot,
You made the right choice with the X. I think the X has pushed the standard higher for the sport SUV offering quite a bit for less than the competition. However, if just one inch of wheel/tire is what is influencing your car buying decision then I would suggest you purchase an Escalade and go for a nice set of 22s or 24s. ha ha ha |

Yes this is because she probably has a 2000 or 2001 4.4 swith sports package. These are 285mm wide in the rear, and they are Z-rated. OF COURSE the car will suck in the snow!
Hence, BMW wise decision to make the 2002-onwards X5 sport package tires ALL-SEASON. No more 19 inch also. =p |

Nah, don't bother yourself with the stupid propaganda crap. The french don't portray the USA or Americans in any much different way than the rest of Europe, which may I remind you, is the continent which holds the MOST of the USA's true allies. This crap of pouring French wine down gutters in front of the media not only is done by ignorant fools, but it hurts US workers and wine industry more than it does the French. In other words, it's embarrasing BULLS*IT. |

Amen! And ironically, time has shown that those who questioned our intel back then have since been proven correct in their doubts and reservations...

I hate big gaudy ghetto rims
I just think that slightly bigger is better...especially if other companies are adding it as an option for something better...
I want 18inches!!! |
