This is my first post as a new member...
I have a hobby in Ham Radio and would like to run a cable directly to the battery of my 2002 X. My problem is finding an entry point to run the cable through the firewall without drilling a hole. The transceiver draws about 15 Amps, so there really is not a tap point within the vehicle that could be used without blowing fuses.
Usually, there is a sealed plug or two that I have been able to use in my previous vehicles, but the X seems to be sealed tighter than a drum.
Any help or suggestions for getting through the firewall with a 1/4 " cable would would be appreciated.
Thanks,

HI Rob,
Welcome to "the club". There should be a rubber grommet to the left of the steering shaft. You should be able to poke a whole in the grommet and run your wire. I may be mistaken about the side it is on. If it isn't on the left, try the right. It's been a few months since I installed by auxiliary lights. Good luck.
(edit) Here's some help from cmdpm:
remove the cover under the steering column. about 4-5 inches to the left of the steering column you will see a thick group of wires running thru a rubber grommet. carefully poke a hole thru the grommet (i used an awl) but away from the wire bundle.i did this along the right edge of the grommet. pass a wire, metal clothes hanger or other thru this hole-it will take you into the engine compartment. |

I saw your post from a few months back...Did you put a radio in rig in the MDX? I would be interested in where you mounted the antenna.
I have a FT100D and ATAS100 motorized antenna. Just got my MDX and am having a tough time figuring out where to mount the antenna.
Any hints?

The cover under the steering column is a flat panel that you can remove with a quarter turn plastic knob. Once you turn the plastic knob a quarter turn, just yank that panel downward and away. Then get under the dash with a flashlight and look for the rubber grommet that is about 1 foot up from floor on left side of firewall in front of driver. I ran a wire through the grommet by making a slight hole in the grommet first. You can also just barely see the grommet from under the hood if you get at the right angle. I had someone help me by passing the wire through, then I grabbed it from under the hood and pulled it through. Good luck. |

Are you using a 2-meter transceiver? Have you had any problems with RF affecting the electronics in the X?
