Saab 9-7X Due in '06
Saab's first sport-utility vehicle will emerge in 2006, insiders report. The new vehicle will be based on GM's midsize sport-utility vehicle platform, but with strong Saab influences on the exterior design. The 9-7X will be built in North America, likely alongside other GM midsize 'utes: GM CEO Rick Wagoner told reporters at the Frankfurt auto show that the 9-7X may not be the only Saab model built in America. And the 9-7X won't even be Saab's first model built outside Sweden—that honor goes to the coming 9-2 sport wagon, spun off the Subaru WRX platform and built alongside it in Japan.

Here's a picture of the concept (courtesy of thecarconnection.com). Supposedly based on the Trailblazer platform... I'm not real impressed.

Looks like the Pacifica from the back

Actually I don't think it looks too bad, which surprizes me. But GM is gonna destroy any cache the Saab brand once had. Saabs are not Chevys. (but I guess they're about to be)

Ford has come dangerously close to making Jaguar just another Ford product with a different grill.

As someone who seriously researched, considered and test drove the Trailblazer/Envoy I can't say this is a good thing.

That pic is not of the 9-7X, it is not even of the 9-3X, it is simply a
Saab 9-3 Sport-Hatch Concept to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. LINK

The Swedish automaker Saab, owned by General Motors, is about to fill a considerable gap in its model range. According statistics, about 25 percent of Saab buyers have left the brand in order to buy an SUV - which so far has never been available from Saab.

This will change from 2005 on when the company will offer for the first time in its history a mid-size truck, which will be called 9-7. Its exterior design and handling are going to be significantly different from the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and the other GM mid-size trucks from which it is based. This was already positively confirmed by a selected number of dealers who have been introduced to the new model and who were amazed by its styling.

No prototypes have so far been sighted, but the computer image is an artist's impression made from insider information.
