Great wine, and it's relatively inexpensive. My wife and I visited the vineyard last weekend for their "harvest feast." We're friends with Roberto Donna, of Galileo Restaurant in DC, and he had a Barboursville wine tasting at another of his restaurants, Vivo!, in April. Luca Paschina, the winemaker, and the Melissa Close, the chef from Palladio which is the restaurant at Barboursville, came up to Vivo! then as well. We liked the wine so much we reserved for the harvest feast.
Roberto and Michel Richard (of Citronelle) came down as guest chefs, and the food was incredible. So was the wine.
I can highly recommend their Pinot Grigio, their Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 1999, their Sangiovese Reserve 2001, their Octagon IV Edition (which is about 70% merlot)
Their web site is http://www.barboursvillewine.com and the restaurant's site is http://www.palladiorestaurant.com
If you're ever in the Charlotsville, VA area, stop by Palladio. You won't regret it. Melissa is a fantastic chef. |
