OK..1st time I got my X, tried to program the homelink 4 my liftmaster garage door. Read the manual did everything it told me 4 the rolling code instructions. ( you know...reset by pressing the 2 outside buttons...press the button on liftmaster..then press the homelink 3-4 secs then press again 4 another 3-4 secs so on and so forth)..It still didnt work.:( So I gave up. 1 month later (today) I tried it again (maybe I missed something)...still didnt work. So went to this site found an old thread about homelink. Went to homelink website.. to liftmaster website. Did diferent things....etc (tried turning key to accessory..ignition ...tried doing 2 secs instead of 3-4...tried the non rolling code instructions) still didnt work. Damn what else? Maybe this------>:11: :13:

 :8:  :cursin: :banghead: :behead:

Jay,
I posted this several months earlier. Maybe you already saw it... Try clearing the codes (no need for ignition key), and follow the instructions below. Good luck...

The key for me being able to program the homelink on a garage door opener with rolling codes is to follow the manual EXACTLY. You must first TRY it as though it is a fixed code (even though you know better).

Now, program it (correctly) as a rolling code. Voila. Don't know why, but it works. I tried so many times to program what I KNEW was a rolling code opener without success. I then decided to follow ALL of the instructions from step 1, and it worked.

Hope this helps..

It worked for me too after I did as cbarry described.

Another thing to note is that opening/closing your garage door with HomeLink requires at least a 2-3 second push (you can hold it for longer if you wish) of the HomeLink button, unlike the tap you can use with the remotes that came with the garage door.

Well, mine works fine for the garage door, but not the community security gate. Never has, have a pocket remote that works both with the same code.
I think it's a range problem though. The homelink being weaker than a little pocket key-chain remote.

might sound very obvious - for me it did not work when i tried from my X parked just outside the garage. i tried again after parking the X inside, directly underneath the opener. it worked.

Hey Jay,
The problem might be: You need to program your garage door too. I found that many garage doors with rolling codes have a button to program remotes to garage door. This is usually a two person job with the homelink. One person presses the button on the garage door motor the other person presses the the homelink. Check your garage motor door manual. Also make sure you use an orignal remote. I tried programing my homelink with anther programable remote -that did not work. So, your program to the homelink might be okay.

BTW- Mines workes with the community gate too. I just have to figure out what to use the third button for.

That's funny, mine works much better for the community gate then the remote they give you. Although the one in my previous vehicle (a '98 Jeep) didn't work at all.

Even stranger, the one in my wife's Volvo S60 works at least twice the range that the one in my X does. These are all made by the same people (the homelink, that is.)

Dale,
If your talking about the blue Clicker remotes (three buttons), don't use this to program the homelink. It didn't work for me. As I stated, I had to use the orignal.

Mine is 2 button remote given to us by the homeowner's association.
They also install a microcoder on your garage door opener. The remote they give you will now work either the gate your own gargage door.
But when I programmed the homelink with that remote, only the garage door responds. Mind you, the garage door will not open with homelink if I am much more than the distance of one house away.

I have a liftmaster as weel, I found it reall easy to just take the remote and put it up to the homelink and follow the directions in the manual. I could not get it to work the long hard way!

I did program the homelink thingy and it worked fine the first time (I have rolling code). Now let me ask another question. My garage is a detached one. Is there a way that I can use the homelink and not lock myself in the garage? They should have thought about this. Anyone aware of any solution?

Do you mean have the gargae door close while you are still in the garage? If yes, couldn't you just open the garage door again by pressing the Home Link Button again while you're in the garage?

You only need the ignition turned on, not the engine running.

Well, let me explain. Let's say I want to put the car into the garage. I press the homelink which opens the door just fine. Now I put the car in, and want to get out of there and close the garage door. oops ... I have to be in the car to press the button. I can be smart, click the button and run out of the garage, trying not to hit the motion sensor security beam that disengages the door for safety, but somehow I don't think that was the intention of having homelink.

Same thing happens when I want to pull the car out of garage. How can I do it if the car and the homelink button is in the garage???

So I ended up carrying my clicker as if I don't have homelink. :4:

You need a security keypad mounted outside your garage door for ingress or egress without the pocket remote, or Homelink. The MAIN purpose of the Homelink is to open the garage door when you drive up to it.

Anybody program their homelink to turn on lights in the house? If so, how's that done?
Warzau
You need to buy a module and program much the same way as you would the garage. http://www.homelink.com/partners/lighting.tml

Makes sense, now I understand. How about adding a numeric keypad on the outside of your garagae?
