| I'm an active member on the honda-pilot.org site and have been selling a clear door edge guard tape manufactured by 3M. If you are interested in protecting the door edge of your MDX, but don't like the molded door edge guards by Trim Lok, then check out this 3M tape. The tape is virtually crystal clear, so it does not take away from the smooth body lines of the MDX. The tape is also the same material used for the clear bra/clear mask that is used to protect the front of the vehicle against flying stone chips and other road hazards. The tape is 8 mils thick. The roll is 1" wide x 5 yards, more than enough to cover all 4 doors. Cost is $12 plus $3 for shipping and handling. Note that xpel.com is selling an 8 mil thick tape that is 3/8" wide x 35" long for $4.95. So, if you are interested, send me a pm or email for details. Supply is limited. |

| 3M promotes the tape for the door edge guard as their rhino tape. Picture shows how the tape is puncture resistant. |

| This is a picture of my Pilot with the clear door edge guard. Advantages of this product include: 1) Clarity - The tape is crystal clear. It does not detract from the appearance of the Pilot. It has good adhesion qualities, but can be removed cleanly without damaging the paint. 2) Durable - Tthe tape protects against abrasion and weathering. It is also extremely puncture resistant. 3) UV Resistant - The tape will not discolor or yellow, even after years of use. 4) Flexible - The tape can be applied easily and conforms well to the door edges. 5) Chemical Resistant - The tape is not affected by detergents, gas, or wax. |

Got mine today and applied it. Works just great! A super deal at 10 bucks. Virtually invisible compared to the old snap and stick trim.
Lots left over, I only used it on the upper part of the rear doors which are more likely to contact something. |

| It works great! It's the 3M Clear Bra material, I had it put on at the same time as I had the other areas of the X done. Because I tow the X, I had the entire front end covered, the leading edge of the roof, backs of the mirrors, the A pillars, door edges, tops of the wheel arches, inside the door handles and the rear bumper. From 10 ft you can't tell the material is there. You can see it from closer than that, but, in the long run it's better than parking lot ding's and road rash. |

I recently got a kit from Stongard, it's the same stuff as xpel, and I think there are other sellers also. They all sell the same stuff, it's 3M clear paint protection film. You can also buy bulk sections in various widths from the two companies, as well as from www.griotsgarage.com

| Is this tape or a molding for the door edge? |
|

| This is a clear tape that wraps around the door edge. It is conformable making it easy to apply to straight or curved door edges. It's the same material used for clear bras. If you would like a sample, send me a PM with your address. |

| I have not been able to locate the old style black stainless snap on guards for the MDX, so this may be an alternative. BUT it is tape, and hence appears may be a small hassle to apply without having wrinkles in it, especially around curves. Can anyone provide their own experiences with this product? |

| My tape is holding up just fine. When I close the doors my fingers go mostly to the tape-covered edges and never touch the paint.... |

| I am still waiting for my MDX, so have not yet tried the tape. However, the customer service from Mr. Wong was outstanding. He replied quickly to every e-mail question I had prior to ordering, and notified me when it shipped. My order was mailed the day after he received my check, and was packaged nicely. It arrived in 2 days from California to New York by Priority Mail. It was a pleasant experience doing business with him. |

No problem, KC. Glad it worked out. Some of the simplest changes are the most effective. |

Like this?

3M also sells paint protection film in Strips, which is how I did my rear bumper. I bought the 4" x 84" strip and trimmed a 3" x 45" piece for the bumper ledge. You'll probably have enough left over to do the door edges, wheel arches and maybe the sideview mirrors.
You can get it from any body shop supply store (check yellow pages) that carries 3M products. The part number is 84904 and should cost between $25- $40. |

Hello Guys,
Just wanted to know if once applied, either the clear edge door guard or the 3M Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film, Strip,
can it be removed and if yes, what is the process?
In 3M web site, it is mentioned that these are pressure sesitive and kind of permanent.
Has any one ever tried to remove them. Does the paint come out?
Thanks in advance

FAQ's from 3M.com regarding Paint Protection Film removal:
Q. Will Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film harm the painted surface if the film is removed?
A. If the film is properly applied to a fully cured painted vehicle, it can be removed, usually in one piece, without damaging paint surfaces beneath the film.
Q. How is Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film removed?
A. If desired, film can be removed at any time by picking up a corner of the film and pulling the film off the vehicle surface at a 90-degree angle. If the film has been present a long time, or if the film and vehicle are cold, a heat gun or hair dryer may be used to soften the adhesive, allowing easier removal. If any adhesive remains on the vehicle after removal of the film, it can be removed by using 3M™ General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner (3M Part #08984), according to the package directions.
Q. If Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film is removed from the vehicle, can it be re-used?
A. Once the film has been applied and set, the adhesive will not stick a second time. |
