Antenna mast hits roof box - Click HERE for Original Thread

I recall prior threads that touched on this issue. I am looking at a Thule roof box. The mounting system will mate to the MDX factory rails, and the tailgate will clear the box. However, the rear end of the roof box is over the flex antenna mast. It seems to me that you could simply allow the flex mast to bend over at about a 90 degree angle and just be done with it. Or alternatively, just remove it and live with the CD and radio reception without the mast.

Anybody else dealt with his? I want put skis in the box, so a box shorter than about 6 feet is not going to work. Since the antenna mount itself contains an amplifier and the mast is just basically a rubber coated wire, perhaps an antenna could be fashioned using the mount and a wire layed down on the roof. Not a perfect solution but workable.

Find a bolt with the same threads, plated to make it more impervious to weather, fasten (solder, weld, etc.) a wire jacketed with plastic shrink tubing, position it level, instead of angling it up, and see if it works just as well.
