With several new "Whites" appearing for the '04 models I went to the Acura site so see how they compare. Someone in another thread had mentioned that the '04TL had an "Aspen White" According to the official Acura site it's "White Diamond Pearl" which looks to me slightly different. I'm wondering how these will compare in person.
White Diamond vs. Aspen Pearl
Here's how it looks on my screen: |

Oops. Let's try that last one again.
Taffeta White vs. Diamond Pearl White: |

The bottom line? To me the Taffeta is definitely the "whitest," the Aspen Pearl is the "creamiest" and the White Diamond Pearl, in a side by side comparison seems to have a bit of a hint of light silver in it.
I like them all. |

| Some more grist for the mill. The RL comes in a "Premium White Pearl" (which I've seen in the showroom). Here's how it stacks up, visually, with Aspen White Pearl. |

The bottom (visual) line?
When I saw the RL in the showroom in Premium White Pearl I could swear that it looked a lot yellower in person. However, that was probably caused by the color of the lighting in the showroom (brand new building - not sure of what type of lighting) as I wasn't paying attention at the time.
One thing for sure: White, since it is the result of the reflection of ALL colors, is going to take on different hues under different lighting conditions (whereas something like Black, which theoretically reflects NO light) is less affected by ambient light (using a term from my Home Theater Forum days).
And the "pearl" finish, I'm sure, contributes to the radiance of these colors as well. I would be curious how a "Taffeta Pearl White" might look!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and Acura seems to provide a wide range of colors to please almost every taste.
Take care. |

One more caveat:
The screen captures I've attached here will only reproduce as well as your monitor resolves different colors. I'm sure that in most cases the difference in colors will be apparent but I'm also aware that some of you might be looking at these pictures and wondering, "What's he talking about?!?"
In this case, this is something that is beyond my control. I trust you understand. |

Take two aspirin and call me in the morning.
Unfortunately, they'll be white, too. Don't know which shade, though.:2: |

The paint has a pearlescent look with microflakes of various colors in it. There is not as much pearlescent effect as there is in the Lexus version, but I prefer it to the Taffetta white MDXs I have seen. The Taffeta white is simple a glossy white (very glossy very white) with no "metalic/pearlescent" effect.
All of Acura's Pearl colors (e.g. Deep Mahogany Pearl) have a somewhat metallicy glint to them. |

Which is what drew me to the new Aspen White Pearl offered in the '04 MDX.
Thanks for the information. |
