I have a Dish Network sattelite feed, where I am getting the SD (no HD yet) signal, and have a Sony S7700 non-progressive DVD. In reading about the Iscan Pro or new Iscan Ultra, it sounds like I would improve my digital picture quality by going to the 480p signal through the Iscan. Has anyone hooked up the Iscan pro or Ultra model to your sytem, and did it improve the picture quality?
My TV is a 2002 55" Mitsubishi Diamond. My picture quality is preety good, but desire to get a better one if the Iscan can do that.
Will get the additional antennae and HD signal sometime later when more programming is vaialable in HD.

Has anyone hooked up the newer DVDO ISCAN HD which upconverts SD signals to 1080i? If so, have you found a significant improvement in picture quality when connected to the Dish Network (or DirectTV) signal, or when connected to your DVD player that is normally a 480i or 480p signal.

What's the native res. of your Mits?
My Sony is 720p. (technically it's 768 by pixel count)
Picture quality with an upconverting DVD player is very good at that res. A notch above progressive. A $200 Oppo Digital DVD player w/1080i or 720p. (Component output from the same player sucks..)

Once HD DVD players are on the market it seems there would be even less need for an iSCAN, etc. But I realize folks have special applications for other video sources, HTPC, etc. But for just watching DVDs I'm not sure it's worth the money.

The Mits. is a HD (1080i) resolution capable TV. Main use for the ISCAN HD (1080i upconversion) would be for both the Dish network feed and DVD feed. If it would not improve the Dish network (SD signal) feed upon upconverting to 1080i, it would not be worth the price to me as the iscan HD is around $ 899 now. I will probably not get a HD DVD player the 1st year as will wait for prices to go down. In addition, my 2002 model MITS. TV only has a component hookup (the next year (2003 models), the DVI came standard on the Mits. models), and I am not sure that any HD DVD player will have a component output (assume they will only have a DVI or HDMI output(s)).

No, they have BOTH outputs. Of course, only upconverts through HDMI.
The Panasonic S77 or S97 along with the Oppo Digital are the best rated for the under $300 players. The Oppo is $200 and the S77 may even be less.
All output 720 or 1080i. They are an improvement but won't knock your socks off.
I have the Oppo but would not recommend it for components output.

The Iscan, or any other scalar, will not do very much to improve the SD output of you Dish receiver. The best way to improve your SD image is with the new Flea from Algolith, go here www.algolith.com/index.php?id=flea&L=0 . This has almost all the capability of their much more expensive Mosquito for about half the cost. I don’t know if you are willing to spend that much but it will do a very good job cleaning up the SD image.
