they sure phrase things a little differently down there.

Seeing that MDX owners in both Canada and the USA have been highly impressed with this vehicle's 4-wheel drive system since its introduction, that Australian reviewer has zero credibility in my mind. Many of us have to drive up steep hills covered with snow and ice (something not too common in Australia), yet I have never read a single report that knocked this vehicle's traction. However, the Australian reviewer - using a very easy task - found that traction wanting. His opinions don't compare with others who know much more about the car - we the owners. :3:

Come on, guys! Give the aussies a break. After all, the forces of gravity are much more challenging when you are 'down under'!

Then again, maybe it's 'the beeyah'! :2:

I've been to Australia several times, and driven in many other parts of the world (as have many others here of course). A vehicle that is designed for the driving habits of North Americans will not be acceptable for most of the rest of the world.

I personally prefer European driving habits, but Australian's are pretty close with the exception that you do need true off road capabilities.

For North America the MDX is a great vehicle, but for much of the rest of the world it would be a joke. The article demonstrates how the MDX is like a fish out of water in Austrialia, and I'd have to agree with it for that market.... or at least most of that market.

A personal comment... I was born in the USA and have lived here all my life, but I find driving here a boring experience. We have brought everything down to the lowest common denomiator... lousy drivers. We have made sure that no skill is required to do anything, and those with any skill can't use it.

A consideration, csimo. Especially, since most positive reviews of the MDX are done by 'car' people, not die-hard off-roaders.
While I have read a couple of 4X4 mag reviews of the X, they usually are kind, and say it is better than the run of the mill boulevard cruising SUV, they are not glowing in their praise of it's off-road capability which means they are being very objective, in my opinion.

For most of us, the percentage of usage would lean to everyday driivng and utility, while the aussies would lean more towards it's off the road capability. They don't buy all those Subarus to cruise the streets at night.

After reading my message again I should make my post clearer. In Australia the comfort of the vehicle is not nearly as important as its abiltiy to get you to your destination. The ability to not get stuck in the ruts in the road, or ford a creek are very important. The secondary roads between the major roads are not very good. A vehicle that can't get you where you want to go is pretty much useless to them.

Any of the newer "crossover" SUV's wouldn't be much use in such situations. To us they are the rage, but we don't have many sitatutions where we really need to count on all of what the vehicle can give to just get to the destination.

The article was reviewing the MDX from a "down under" practical point of view, and quite frankly the MDX is probably not very practical there just like a Highlander wouldn't be, but a 4Runner works great (I rented one last time there).

Acura/Honda never put any claim that this vehicle was built for "serious" off roading. All one has to do is look at the mechanical setup of this vehicle and you know it was built with on road comfort in mind. So to put it through its paces offroad is to ones own detriment. So if you need an off roader then go ahead and look else where because there are plenty of other vehicles to choose from that fit the bill. But don't DIS this vehicle for not doing what you think it ought to because it does do alot of other things really well. :3:

As an Australian owner of a MDX i have read that review before. I drove my MDX over the same peice of ground that was in the review, and found no problem in the ability of the MDX to perform as required.

See, I told you so. :4:

If Australian roads are really that bad, then they are much worse than most roads in Mexico. And that my friends, is very hard for me to believe. :1:
