This is my Blue Diamante again…. Mitsubishi’s paint finish is phenomenal! Does waxing twice a year make that much of a difference or is it some secret KFC like recipe Mitsu uses for paint?

Can you believe that this car has been as far north as Canada, has been to the Southern point, has gone cross country, and has even survived two hurricanes, one in PR and the most recent in VA. Over 211000 miles with original paint and this baby outshines many new cars and out accelerates the X. :4: Go Figure…

I had two Mitsubishi’s and they were both "crap", one was a 1996 Galant and the other was a 1987 Starion ESR-i. I would not touch another one with a ten foot pole. I am glad that you have had such good luck with yours.

rvehock,

After two weeks of driving a Galant, I traded for the diamond because the Galant had an irritating click (not like our brakes) that drove me bananas. Guess I’m fortunate to have dumped it when I did… Sorry about your experience. :(

I would highly recommend the Diamante. It’s particularly good for a teen’s first car (used, of course). :roadtrip: It’s built like a tank.

The paint on all new cars is inferior to the older models. Up until recently car makers could put all sorts of toxic chemicals in there paint to make it look great. Now the car makers have to use environmentally friendly paints that are dull and less durable.

That may be true with respect to durability, but I will take the paint finish of a Highlander over an MDX. Less orange peel and more luster IMHO. Not to say I don't still love my MDX!!!

A turning point came after witnessing a technician struggle with a basic brake job that he was performing on my Diamante. It was an unpleasant experience, one that required three return trips, which left me dissatisfied. I figured that I could perform just as bad a job as he and save some time and dough in the process. Since then I’ve been Mr. “Do it your self.”

In the early years I used the Slick 50 engine and transmission products, but can’s say for sure if that had any real impact. Syntec or Mobil 1 is what goes into the oil pan. As far as my transmission goes, I’m a firm believer of never letting anyone touch it. I have done the fluid and filter changes, a task that requires a great deal of time. It’s especially difficult to get the old gasket off of the pan.

All of my vehicles get washed on overcast days, in sections as to not allow for the soap to dry on the finish and then ends with a last rinse to help keep water spots from forming. Wax twice a year.

And maybe luck has something to do with it.

;)

hey! my '98 diamante has 60,000 miles on it now and it's running strong... my son has been driving it... he's put a system in there now and going to change the cold air intake or something sometime soon... it was my car originally and i didnt too well of a job taking care of the outside... the paint seems really dull and there seems to be water marks that just won't come off... he's already applied turtle wax rubbing compound to the whole car... clay bar'd it and waxed it... any ideas? should we go the zaino route? it seems that the wax that we put on doesnt stay on for long and everytime it rains, it strips off...

Rubbing compound!
It may be too late. Compound removes scratches along with the clear-coats and paints. How about a picture???

You may just have to get a new paint job.

If you plan to be in NYC anytime soon, there is this Jamaican man who does great, inexpensive work out of a hole in the wall body shop. I don’t recall the name, but he is located on East 156 Street in the Bronx, on the south side of the street, just East of Brook Ave.
If he’s still in business, the money you save can pay for the vacation to the Big Apple.
