Hi All:
___Here in the Midwest, the temps are dropping so you had better get on it ... You guys in the southern states or warmer climates, you lucky SOB’s ;)
___Just finished the X’s final Zaino treatment for the season ... Z7 wash, blow dry, towel dry, Z7 and Clay bar, Z7 wash, blow dry, towel dry, Z2 w/ ZFX, wipe down, a spray of Z6 afterwards with a final wipe down. A little tire black to round out the detail and she looks great ... Oh, and I smell good :D
___Tomorrow I will hit the inside.
___Good Luck

Hi Paul’s MDX:
___With an Echo Back pack blower of course :D
___The attached is an older one I used to own. The latest has even more power, velocity, and is even better built.
___Good Luck

| very cool way of drying!! Do you have to worry about blowing particles on the paint which may cause chipping? |

Hi Paul’s MDX:
___Not even a bit of dust to worry about ... Just a lot of wind and in 2 or 3 minutes, it’s a quick wipe down with a cotton towel to get it to totally clean and dry.
___Good Luck

Excellent idea! I'm about to relocate into a large home and will need to get one of those blowers for the yard, and will now use for drying my vehicle fast! Thanks for the idea!

Be carefull. If you point the blower straight down those have so much power you will be able to fly over the house. :2: |

___Bald Eagle, if I could only figure out how to control the landing, I wouldn’t need an automobile ;)
___I just finished the interior ... Newspaper and Windex for the interior glass, Newspaper wipe of the exterior glass since I Zaino’ed it as well, vacuuming of the entire X’s front and rear passenger carpet, mats, and rear cargo area, spray and hand brush top and bottom of the rear cargo tray, wipe down of all interior plastics, door sills, door frames, inside and exterior of the vents and plood, leather/pleather interior, with a damp sponge, and a soft all cotton cloth wipe down of all including the instrument cluster afterwards. The only thing I am missing is Luxol ... Does anyone know where I can pick some up locally for cheap?
___Oh she looks so damn good :D I will have to get some pics tomorrow when it’s sunny outside. I don’t own a digital camera yet so it will be a while before I get them back ...
___In any case, if you want to take pleasure in your X like the day you purchased it, perform a first rate detail and you will have a brand new car once again. The feeling is oh so great! The only problem is the wife takes it to work in the morning so it will probably not be in the condition I left it as anyone with a wife knows? No harm intended to the ladies of the group ;)
___Tip: To get all the junk that falls between the front seats and center console; move the seats all the way forward and use the little crevice attachment on your vacuum cleaner. After you get the rear junk out, move the seats all the way back and do the same. I actually retrieved 2 fuel receipts, a notepad, a penny, a quarter, and a rouge pen that fell in there with the vacuum attachment. All in all, $0.26 was worth it!
___Good Luck

First, why newspaper:
--it's absorbent.
--the paper pulp is slightly abrasive and scrubs the glass.
--it's cheap and plentiful, and you throw it away when done.
Second, I had to start my Zaino routine this weekend since this could be the last time temps are in the low 60's around here, but I got only the claybar Z18 done yesterday. Took no more than 2 hrs. I'll start the Z5 tonight.
CLAYBAR ROCKS! Tip: Don't "overthink" using claybar. I was originally intimidated by my first black vehicle and the whole Zaino process and didn't do a thing to the finish for the last two years, (the X is in the garage 95% of the time during the week anyway, but that's no excuse). Claybarring is easier than falling off a log, and has to be the simplest step of all. A good spray of soapy water and dragging it back and forth are all that's required. Trying too hard will only "burn" the finish (like when I spent too much time rubbing a blemish). The smoothness is incredible and makes the un-clayed paint feel like sandpaper.
For owners in winter climates: Looking over the X with two 500w worklights in the garage, I found only two small chips in the front lip of the hood after 38k miles of highway driving and over some pretty horrible roads, so the deflector I just bought will protect this area better. However, the paint just above rocker panels along both sides looks like it's been lightly sandblasted over time. Anyone with a newer X might consider a clear film about 6" wide along the bottom of the paint between the wheels. I might get a strip from Vehicle Protection Films and protect what paint I have left.:( |
