38,000 miles and I need a new transmission. It took them about 3 weeks to figure out what was wrong. When driving, I would hit the gas and the engine would rev up, but the car would't pick up speed. There were no indications on the cars computer that there was a problem.
This would happen very intermittendly.Of course it wouldn't't happen when the service department had it. It seemed the transmission didn't know what it wanted to do. They tried to change some parts, but that didn't work.
The service manager drove around with me for about 1 hour and nothing. Soon as I dropped him off, it happened again. This time I kept my foot on the gas and kept the revs up until either the engine was going to go or the transmission. The check engine light came on and they finally had a code to work with.
The final diagnosis, I would need a new transmission. |

| :( Sorry to hear about the bad news WarpSpeed... I'm curious to know what your maintenance routine regarding the VTM fluid change / flush, ect... Was it per the manual, or did you go beyond factory recommendations? |

That is a good idea about holding it down until the check engine light engages. I'll keep that in mind if I ever have a problem. |

Define "foot on the gas". Are we talking 3000 RPMs, or redline?!?
If the latter, I wonder if Acura would fix/replace the engine if it went first? |

Between 4000 and 5000 RPM's. It took about 40 seconds. I didn't redline the engine. And I'm sure they would replace the engine because it's under warranty.
P.S- I'm glad I bought an extended warranty. You never know what's going to go wrong. What do you guy's think replacing a transmission costs. ($2500+++++) |

Sorry to hear your troubles, but at least they're going to make it right.
Somewhere TheRobSJ is probably smiling over this one... |

I was simply thinking that if one just hammers it until something goes *BOING*, they might just classify that as abuse. Since it was under redline, all should be cool.
I hear you on the warranty. My Ody was the first new car I didn't get the extended warranty on, and I'm sad I didn't. Nothing major (knock on wood), but there's a few annoyances going on that warranty would probably have fixed that I'm now going to pay out of pocket for. Oh well.
At least it will to pay off for you ... and then some. Bummer to have to use it, but nice to have it when you need it. |
