Well, today in the morning I had to go to court to fight a speeding ticket (and I won!), and I noticed I had very low fuel when I started the journey.
The computer said "10 miles". I of course didn't care cuz we all know there is at least 10 more (or 20) miles in the reserve.
There was a rather nasty accident on the highway and so there was stop and go bumper traffic that I endured for at least a half hour. I was noticing that I was now at an indicated 7 miles remaining, but it took a LONG time to get to 6 (more than 1 mile!) so I dunno how the computer calculates exactly...but I guess I don't care at this point.
So I park the car and go to court, and I get back in when done and now it indicated I have 2 miles left. I drive a bit and now it says 1 mile left. Red needle is RIGHT over the Empty dash line. Whoa. I was rather confident there is reserve still, but part of me said "uhm, so...what happens when this thing hits zero? Will it say RESERVE instead of a number?" I wasn't brave enough to find out. It was raining out. So I filled up gas. 17.8 gallons. Ah, so we had 19.2 - 17.8 = 1.4 gallons remaining. Which can easily be good for another 25 miles easy.
Anyone got experience with going BELOW the indicated 1 mile in the trip computer? LOL that would be cool to know. I know that in that hidden setup screen u can alter the reserve amount from 10 to 0 for example, and thus make the computer REALLY tell u how many miles u got left (I tried looking for this but failed).
Also as a side note...on the drive back home, which involved mostly cruising at 50-55 mph, but with a good amount of lights and stop and go too, I was almost always feathering the gas (NOT MY USUAL DRIVING STYLE!) and when I got home I got 19.7 mpg. WOW. Compare that to my usual 14mpg, LOL. It's mostly got to do with RPM's, I am convinced of that. Man, our MDX...that motor revs SO easily, it's like it was MADE to be at 4000 RPM all day. |

| Going in the reserve in a non impressive event on the NAV screen: the range becomes '---', at least on my '01. |

I have gone out to get mine after the wife drove it, and it said 0 miles to go. I then had to sweat it out about 2 miles to get to the gas station. Also, this past weekend, I filled up, drove about 1 mile from the gas station, and it told me that I was getting over 70 miles per gallon! After I stopped, it slowed back down to 19 or so.
WOW! 70 mpg! |

I'm curious. Where is "the hidden set-up screen"? Get here the same way as the cancel-menu-map buttons? |

Yep, that's the one. If anyone figures out how to adjust the reserve amount, let us know! If at all possible...that is... :D |

If you don't mind telling us, what arguments worked in convincing the judge to cancel your speeding ticket? |

Woops sorry, I forgot to answer this earlier.
Anyway, actually in my particular case I was able to make up a cool story of how I wasn't even in the state when the incident happened (given the circumstances and "evidence" that I could get) so unfortuantely, I cannot recommend anything cuz it wouldn't work for you.
Having said that, it's EXCEEDINGLY difficult to get out of a moving violation ticket, unless it was for expired plates or tinted windows or something like that, which are always thrown out once you show you fixed it. The reason is the whole system is set up to generate revenue, and the judge is in bed with all the others in the system. Proof? Look how much easier it is to get out of a parking ticket. Well, at least it is in MA, from many many personal experiences. |
