Hey All,
My dad-in-law who owns an '01 wants to get his armrest cover replaced, and the dealership said they've never heard of such a problem. Just wondering if there's a TSB on this issue... I'm sure it'll be just a matter of showing them and telling them it's not acceptable for the armrest cover to do this, but just wondering if there's anything documented...didn't find anything on search or on nhtsa's website.
Thanks,
Rob

| What was the problem? |

| He can replace the stock vinyl one with a leather one, but not sure that is exactly a 'defect' and you do have to pay for it. |

| No TSB on that. What's happening? Wrinkling or the clear layer over the vinyl is peeling? A couple peeps have had it covered under warranty. Tim mentioned the cost of the "new" leather armrest is the same as the "old" vinyl one, so he should ask the dealer to order the newer version. |

| Sorry, wasn't clear in my original post--it's rippling very badly. Thanks for your thoughts... |

| The cover on my armrest was all messed up and I had it replaced under warranty. The service manager said it happens all the time with the 2001 and replaced it with a 2002 cover. The 2002 cover has little padding so I still wasn't happy. I bought a leather cover from Tim. I still have my 2002 and if you want it. I'll UPS it to you for $10. |

Can anyone answer the question as to the color consistency of the interior vinyl/leather from year to year, specifically the tan - that is, will the leather armrest cover (introduced in '03) match the vinyl/leather surface shading of an '01?
I know that the coloration of the "plood" changed from '01/'02 to '03 (or was that '01 to '02?), but has the vinyl/leather shading changed? |

hockeyplayer,
Thanks for the link, but unless I missed it, there were no pics or discussion on the tan interior, only the ebony. (And attempting to compare subtle shading from a digitized picture, even on a calibrated monitor, can be futile).
Hmm, it looks like I may be the first with the tan interior to experience a wrinkle on the center console armrest. I guess there is only one way to find out if the coloring of the leather replacement matches - but I am not dissatisfied enough yet to bother with a replacement. |

| The tan '03 matched my '02 perfect. Can't speak for the '01 |

I recently replaced my the armrest on my 2001 MDX with a leather one purchased at hondacuraworld.com.
The leather matches my interior perfectly, it cost around $30, it was simple to install, and, I think, it makes a huge difference in the look of the interior.
For $30, I wouldn't even bother with the hassle of going through the dealer. |

lefty,
I Agree that it isn't worth the bother of going through the dealership (Me: "I want a replacement armrest...uhhh, but not the regular replacement armrest, I want... you know... the leather armrest". Service Manager: "Huhhwhaa? Do you want the replacement armrest or not?")
I am curious though lefty, do you have the tan (saddle) or black (ebony) interior? |

I gotta agree with the not hassling with the dealer bit. I just ordered the leather replacement from our pal Tim and popped it on there--it's definitely a straightforward procedure.
I should just do it for my dad-in-law... |

| Maybe Tim can do the warranty trade/swap on the "new" armrest for the old one  |

| Acura would :yodaddy: me if I tried to do a warranty repair without the vehicle actually being here...... |
