Ok...is it just me or is it RUDE to not put your turn signals when changing lanes or ANY maneuver that requires a turn?? It seems to be quite common in So Cal.
I ALWAYS put my signal...even if I'm on the phone...I tell the person to "hold on a sec"...then do my thing.
I wonder how many accidents could be avoided if people would use their signals all the time.
K...off my soap box I come :) |

You can get back on the soap box, as far as I'm concerned. Bad drivers irk me to no end...:soapbox: |

In NC you can bargain off $400-$600 the price of a car for the factory installed standard turn signals `cause there no use to you, neither required by the state.
its a state joke locals tell new transplants when they complain like you do or ask for dealer recommendations/buying advice when looking for a new car. |

| ;) I heard that in Florida, at certain Cadillac dealers, when you take delivery of your car your left turn signal is left on to blink permanently. |

| In New York City, you can't use your directionals because if you signal that tells everyone NOT to let you in. You have to see the opening and take it. On Long Island people tend to use their signals. I actually use them all the time, but like I said in the city, everybody takes advantage of you when you use them. It can get very annoying!!! |

That's been my experience in the LA area, too. |

| Solution to the LA & NY problem: flash one time as you're making your lane change. If that doesn't work, flash your middle finger. |
|
|
| TheyCallMeBruce |
I know I've said this elsewhere, . . but
Is it just my perception, or are the front turn signals on 01-03 MDX's really invisible to people whose lane you are about to change into?
Maybe that's the solution for New Yorkers; invisible signals so you feel good that you did signal and its too bad that no one else can see them. |
|
|
| trixie |
| Good thinking on the invisible front blinker, Bruce. One problem, it's the guy to your rear that nails the gas when he sees your non-invisible rear blinker. |

I always use my signals, but it's seen as a sign of WEAKNESS in the Metro Atlanta area! Other drivers will run all over you if they see a signal indicating any kind of lane change or exit turn. |

It makes me mad too.. BUT On surface streets it makes me mad but on the freeway in slow traffic. If you put your blinker on there you will never I mean never be able to change lanes. On the freeway the people go nuts. Typical senario:
Movin in slow traffic.
Leaving a 2 car space infront.
They see your blinker and speed the hell up to close the gap.
I just get in the fast lane and keep moving 13MPH
But I do give a thanks wave after getting in. |

How about not FREAKIN CRUISING IN THE LEFT LANE at below the posted speed limit. What concept of "this is a PASSING lane ONLY" do people not understand? :3: |

Oh, that's nuthin. As folks in the New England area know, drivers will not signal when making a LEFT TURN AT AN INTERSECTION. And, they will make that turn RIGHT IN FRONT OF ON-COMING TRAFFIC.
It is not uncommon at all to approach an intersection where you have the green light and find a driver coming from the opposite direction, stopped in the middle of the intersection, with no turn signal. So then the guessing game begins; Is he confused about the green light? Is he trying to read the street sign? Is his car stalled? Is he going to turn right - out of harms way? Is he going to suddenly turn left - right into me?!!
If it wasn't so incredibly sad, with the loss of life and property, it would almost be funny (the police blotter in our local paper averages 3 - 4 accidents a week caused by vehicles turning in front of on-coming traffic). |

That sounds real annoying, you should be able to hit them, too bad our vehicles aren't like bumper cars!! Then we could hit without the worry of damage.
P.S. - What is that avatar supposed to mean? An MDX slipping in and out of a vasoline jar? I'm scared to ask? Hope the answer can be said with children around???

That is what is so galling about this behavior. If they start making the turn in front of you and you hit the brakes and lay on the horn, THEY give you a dirty look and often the middle finger. As if they fully believe that it is their right to go against the traffic with the right-of-way, and turn whenever they wish (all without using a turn signal!).
Part of the problem, and this is even more infuriating, drivers who have the right through the green will often stop all traffic behind them and LET THEM TURN LEFT in front of them!! I have no idea if this bizarre behavior is based on a complete and utter lack of knowledge of the "rules of the road", whether it is based on fear ("well if he is going to turn left, I might as well give him a wide berth), or whether it is based on some kind of demented perception of courtesy ("I thought I was just being nice" - forgetting that you just screwed 10 cars behind you who will now not make it through the intersection because you tied it up for the duration of the green light by stopping... and possibly causing a rear-end collision... BECAUSE WHO IS EXPECTING SOMEONE TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF A GREEN LIGHT!).
But, like I said, it happens all the time. |

Here is my PTI version of worst cities to drive in.
#1 All of PR: Where else is the emergency lane used as traffic overflow. And if there is too much action there, they will not hesitate to make a new lane in the grass. My PR visit fully explained the reason my family is late for everything. Speed and tardiness is just the culture.
#2 Hampton Roads’ seven cities: No signals. Exiting from the fast lane, which during the rush just backs up the rest of the folks that are traveling miles past that exit.
Every morning as I merge onto I-664, an idiot with no turn signal jumps in front of me to exit. Sure would be nice to know that that person is trying to exit so that I don’t have to slow down after putting those 260 horses to good use. Slowing down to get on the interstate just isn’t part of the safety course curriculum. Right?
#3 LA: Just too many cars. And when it rains, everyone there feels that their speed should increase from the usual 70 MPH to 80 MPH so that they can avoid the eminent traffic accident. I just love when a fast lane vehicle slows down almost to a complete stop prior to reaching a puddle. WTF!
#4 NYC: Being a Bronx bomber, I feel the need to enlighten the rest of the world. Yankee drivers are not bad. For the most part, they are very aggressive drivers who are misunderstood. Knock on plood, I’ve only been involved in a minor 10 MPH fender bender.
Is NY the only state that requires the safety course prior to taking a road test, which qualifies you for a driver discount with your insurer? I’m pretty certain it’s not, but sure seems like it. In NYC, I learned how to evade the non-English speaking cab drivers early on. The signal used is the “here I come signal.” You must be aggressive in NY or you will find your self stuck in a situation where no Yankee will give you a break. Just ask my wife who froze up as the lanes reduced just prior to crossing the GWB.
Blue eyes stated it best, “if you can make there,” you can drive anywhere. Thank you NY. A little seat adjustment is all that is required to handle just about any driving atmosphere. My NY driving education simply put is “Priceless.”
#5 A little help with # 5 please.
How about a safety campaign? We could have some T-shirts and bumper stickers. “How about a signal?” “What’s a turn signal?” “So that’s a turn signal” “ I make my right-hand turn from the left lane.” “Not an aggressive driver, just a stupid one”
“Blow me ‘your horn that is’ if I don’t signal”
You can make a line of cars from coast to coast and someone from Virginia will cut in. |

Thank you ndahbar. Tickets should be issued for this, as it causes more accidents as the rest of the world now has to pass on the right.
As far as those people who pull out of a gas station, cross several lanes of traffic and use the left/passing lane as a leisurely acceleration lane, they should get the death penalty. |

Sounds like New York City, anything goes. The police rarely pull you over for moving violations. The survival of the quickest and the one who has the biggest balls (Guts). |

LOL that's nothing. Check this out. Try going to Cairo, Egypt sometime. It is HIGHLY recommended that you drive with your windows down. Why? Oh, well, so that you can hear the guy in the car right next to you tap your sheetmetal with his knuckles to get your attention, and then politely asks (using a gesture with his hand) if he can pass in front of you or cut you off to take a left/right. LOL trust me you'll laugh your head off. It's considered as normal as anything. |

Seriously. Anyone know any state police officers? If you do, ask them WHY THE F**K do they not ticket people for being in the left lane for ANY REASON EXCEPT WANTING/NEEDING TO PASS someone in the middle lane?!! What, it's better to pull ME over cuz I'm doing 80 in a 65? KISS MY A** !!!! |
