When I picked up my MDX last Friday, I issued them the check which I received from Peoplefirst.com where I had secured a new car auto-loan from them a month ago, but the dealer refused to accept the check and claimed that they had a very diffcult time to get the money transfer from them on a timely manner. They said that either I have to arrange my own financing from a local bank and pick up the car later or use their Honda Finance if I want to pick up the car now. Of course, I want to pick up the car now, so I went with their suggestion, but the interest rate is 0.6% more. I wonder whether any one has the same experience with any e-loan check or the dealer just jerked me around try to get more money. Any comments ???

I was going to use peoplefirst also and when I informed my dealer (in advance) of this the salesman informed me they don't accept them either but they would take mine because it was a rather small amount. I asked them to better peoplefirst's rate of 7.25 and they did. I think you are lucky they didn't stick you with a rate 2 - 3 points higher than peoplefirst's.

Previously, I had no problem using carfinance.com to purchase my 2 years old Isuzu Amigo. This is the first time that I tried PeopleFirst.com but with no luck with this particular Acura dealer. I am kind of wonder whether it is an issue with this particular Acura dealer or there is a problem using PeopleFirst.com or any e-loan in general.

GoFast_K,
We picked up our MB Acura from Cush in San Diego. Handed them a People First check at 6.95% APR and drove off. They never mentioned a word. We asked them if they'd done a lot of business with People First and he mentioned they'd done a few transactions. Otherwise, no negative comments or any hesitation on the dealer's part.
I would contact Peoplefirst.com (800) 689-1789 and inform them of any negative experiences. They are located in San Diego and have a superb service staff. Their website is http://www.peoplefirst.com/pff/default_2.cfm?d=1
Please report your findings!
In addition...if they're playing games over there...you might be able to get them to match People First's rate. This depends on the amount of "noise" you can make between People First and the dealer.

I have already filed my complaint to PeopleFirst.com and hope that they will follow up with the dealer and wait & see they can do anything for me.

Thats weird. I used a check from PeopleFirst when I got my MDX on 4/7/01. The Acura dealer was in Orland Park, IL. They did not say a thing about it. The only problem I had with the purchase was the dealer limited any credit card charges toward the purchase to $3000 so I could not get as many miles as I wanted. I would call or email PeopleFirst and they should be able to take care of you. They have been excellent to work with so far.

Below is the response which I've got back from PeopleFirst.com.
I think the dealer is taking advantage of the situation that the car has a 2 months waiting list.
This is unfortunate, but next time I will tell them up front about what kind of financing that I am going to use and make them agreed to it before I bought or signed anything.
Thanks for those who responded to this thread.

Dear ***,
Thanks for your email. We do encounter dealers who don't want to take our check, in almost all of those cases it is because they would rather do the financing themselves, since they make a commission from the bank for
doing that. If you pay for the car outright with our check, there is no extra money to be made by them. If you are still interested, we can offer to send you a refinance loan for our current new car rate of 7.25% for 60
months. Please call us at 800-689-1789 ext #1 if you would like the refinance check sent. Please let us know if we can assist you further.
Sincerely,
PeopleFirst.com

My .33 worth.
I would take (polite) issue. I would write a polite letter to the dealer and share PeopleFirst's response and request that they meet People First's interest rate of 7.25%. If this is not possible, ask them to explain why this check was rejected for your clarification and let them know you intend to share their communication with PeopleFirst and Acura Customer Service. Ask them for a written response. Rather than risk embarrassing themselves or other internal issues...they might apologize for any miscommunication and adjust your rate accordingly. You never know and it's worth the postage. :) |
