Range Indicator Does Not Reset - Click HERE for Original Thread

I have seen several posts on this problem but I am still concenred about the behavior of the MDX after 20000 miles. When gas is low (per the gauge - close to E), the range indicator does not reset after 4 gallons added. My offset is set to 0 and my range (pre-fillup) is at 0 miles. Is this normal? If so, it doesn't seem to make much sense. I know that it did not behave like this in the first 20000 miles. I thought range uses your recent driving history (recent mpg x gallons added = range).

Dealer said they called Acura engineers in CA and said this is OK behaviour - I feel it is Honda's easy way out of the problem.

I topped off the tank before a holiday trip, not sure how full it was at the time, but apparently the range didn't reset.

Over a hundred miles later I was using the the trip computer screen to check MPG and saw we had 60miles until empty. Surprised, I then checked at the analog fuel gauge and it showed 1/2 full.

I selected the trip computer reset, stopped at a rest area and powered down the navigation system, nothing seemed to fix the range.

Not sure which was accurate and since I found a pump with $1.87 Premium, I filled up when the trip computer said about 10 miles to go while the fuel gauge still showed over 1/3 tank remaining.

The fill-up took 12 gallons so the fuel gauge was correct and the range was out of sync. This fill-up also fixed the range issue.

Any idea how to correct the range if it gets out of whack without filling up?
