No, not gas mileage. Miles driven. :D

Stealth radar install (remote in the ashtray). And, yes, it still closes (see the interior pic above).

...and the requisite phone kit. Felt a little strange ripping apart the dash and pillars to install the radar and phone just a couple days after getting the car...

One cool idea I picked up on FreshAlloy (Nissan/Infiniti board) for the radar install was to use a coupler @ the mounting point. That way, when you unplug the radar to hide it, you don't have a phone cord/cable dangling from the headliner, saying "radar was here". Here's a pic of the coupler attached to the backside of the rearview mirror. I made an 8" patch cord to attach the radar, so I just d'con the patch from the coupler and hide the radar unit and patchcord. Pretty cool idea, methinks:

Radar unit sits to the right of the rearview mirror for now (on the fence whether to move it to the D side).

One last pic of the Panavise mount and phone kit :29: If u don't have a Panavise mount in every one of your cars where you use a cell, you don't know what you're missin'!

very nice.

so is this your FUN car?

Looks great, and thanks for the idea for the patch cord for the radar detector!
Robyjo
Woohoo! Congrats Worm-O!!! Man, I'm jealous, we won't be getting ours for a few months yet. I LOVE your setup with the detector...

Once you've got your 1K 'break-in' miles on it, can't wait to see what you think of what she can do...

I also like the color alot...did you guys consider any of the other colors--I know you said 1 black car is enough, so you decided against it. I saw the G in black and couldn't resist--that's got to be the one for us!

Congrats again!

Worm, nice ride!
TheWorm
Thanks, guys.

BBC - well, it's the "more fun" car. I enjoy the X and think it's fun to drive, too. The G is on rails, though.

Robyjo - the breakin is gonna be tough. I feel like an old lady keeping it under 4000rpm; it really starts to howl around 3500 and you can tell it wants to go. I honestly think the coupe looks good in any color. This one is Diamond Graphite. Sort of a darker metallic silver or metallic gray. There's lots of flake in it. Good memory re: the new Worm rule of 1 black car at a time. You might take a peek at the newly released Twilight Blue if you haven't already. It's a dark metallic blue; pretty close to black @ night or in the shade, but in the sun it's a killer metallic blue. Really sharp.

Hammer - yea, that coupler & patch cord is a great idea, huh?

Awesome! The G35 would be at the top of my list if I was considering a new car. :roadtrip:

Nice G35. I love that car too :2:

Does the G-model share platform with the Maxima?

It's one sweet ride!

I don't believe so; it shares the VQ series engine, but the platform is shared w/the 350Z and FX (I don't think that platform is used on other cars in the Nissan/Infiniti line, but I'm not certain).

The new Max is a good looking car, too.
Robyjo
Alright Wormo, the break-in period must be over. Give us an update on that beauty--please include handling, speed, # of traffic tickets received, radar setup (see previous), etc. in your response.
Rob:31:
ps--just about got the wife convinced on the twilight blue...

Neighbor on the left has a black one, and 4 doors down on the right is one in midnight blue. Excellent! :29:

I'm embarrassed to report that I haven't yet cracked the break-in threshhold...as I only drive 600 or 700 miles/month. Still have a few hundred miles left of break-in. Gotta keep it under 4000rpm til then (redline is 6500 I think).

Still a great powerband in those low revs, and knocks you back into the seat in every gear (except 5th, but especially 1/2/3). I've driven it in the twisties up in Tilden Park and it's a load of fun and handles really well (very tight). I was a bit concerned about ride quality w/the 18" wheels and low-profile summer tires, but it's smooth and quiet. The suspension is excellent.

One thing I must admit is that if it isn't raining, I often drive with the window(s) down, regardless of outside temp...the engine and
exhaust notes are pretty evil and are music to the ears :)

No tickets and the radar has been helpful. It's an easy car to speed in (unintentionally). It gets up to speed very quickly and is so solid you really can't tell how fast you're going without looking at the speedo.

Still haven't seen a twilight blue on the road, but did see one @ the dealer and it's a great color (I prefer it to the black). I do miss the mirror Zaino finish you can get on a dark car, though the diamond graphite (dark silver metallic, basically) does hide the dirt well.

Since the original post, I've had HuperOptik tint installed (Litespeeds on the Pilot board owns a couple of shops and I had him do it...highly recommended). I'm currently test-fitting some foam pads from wwong from the Pilot board (and here) for storage areas their associated "rattling gear".

I also added some auxilliary DRLs/fogs. The car has fogs integrated into the existing headlight assembly, but the manner in which they're switched differs from the X and most other cars -- the switch isn't on/off, but rather emits a pulse that is transmitted via an in-car LAN, and the computer switches them on. Bottom line is that there's no good access to modify or fool the switch to be on when you want DRLs (like in TheCallMeBruce's foglamp/DRL implementation here).

The *cool* part about the aux DRLs/fogs I installed is that I used a Hella Optilux Wireless Remote kit for the switch (to avoid having to go through the firewall and mount a switch somewhere).

The better part is that the Hella remote is within the Homelink's operating range, so I actually use the Homelink buttons on the mirror to turn 'em on and off :)
Robyjo
Thanks for the info--she's looking as purdy as ever. Slick idea w/ the fogs!

You've certainly covered all your bases, but here's one you didn't mention--are you considering stongard or anything like it?
Warzau
NICE!!! :2: So this is the car you were talking about you had to remove tons of interior piece to put the phone in. I remember, btw thanks again with the help on the sunshade. BUT again nice car!

Robyjo - Had the clearbra installed by the dealer pre-delivery. Price was comparable to going straight to an installer/vendor (my buddy bought an FX so I knew how low they'd go -- $695 for this particular kit/brand)...I called the actual installer and he wanted $100 more than the dealer was charging :) It's Clear Armor brand, but they use the 3M material like most other places. Definitely worth it, as there are a lot of complaints about rock chips on the front-end, esp since the car is so low.

Warzau - Yea, this was the tear-apart-the-dash for the cell install. To remove the panel to the right of the radio stack for the mount, I had to pull the pax door sill, the pax kick panel, and the glovebox. Everything was "layered".
Warzau
Ouch just as bad as the sunshade, for our fellow MDXers. Simple rundown. Pull back sunshade remove inner trim of sunroof glass to remove 4 bolts on the sunroof glass ( yes need to remove glass). Dont drop sunroof glass. Remove drip guard remove some more tiny thing and 15 or so screws and then you can remove the shade, reverse and voila done after 2 hrs.

Worm how does G compare to the 350Z?

Wow - that's a flamebait question :)

Don't really know. I didn't look at the Z, since I needed the rear seat for carseats (G is 2+2, Z is 2 seater only). I personally prefer the look of the G, although I like the frontend of the Z better (but strongly dislike the rear). Most people characterize the Z as the pure sports car and the G as its GT cousin. The G obviously has more lux content since it's the Infiniti. Power-wise, the Z is 287hp and the G is 280hp. The Z has a shorter wheelbase, so I'd assume it's better in the twisties but the G presumably would be a smoother ride, relatively speaking.
