I am getting
13 mpg city
15 mpg Hway

What should I do??? <600 miles total on the MDX

try turning off the A/C (don't use the climate control). I have experienced about 4 - 5 mpg better when I have the A/C off. If that doesn't help - take it back to the dealer. Your city mpg is about right - if it's all short trips stop & go. Your Hwy sounds pretty low though.

What gear are you driving in?

(your hwy should be 20+; certainly high teens even though your engine is new and not yet broken in...city short trips and/or stop n go should be 14-16, prolly toward the lower range given low miles)

Probably about right -- in D5, going on a trip but taking maybe 20 miles of city driving to get to the Interstate, it'll take me 150-200 miles before the indicator will top 20 mpg; then, after I hit maybe 300-350 miles, it will get to around 25.

Probably not enough miles to really know what you have.
13-14 in Stop-Go rush hour could be right (we average 15-16 rural city).
You should get 20+ on highway EVEN with the A/C on (we get 22-23 in summer highway driving).

I just drove to Houston today from Dallas and driving 70 mph with A/C on & with a lot of wind I avg 20.1 mpg (actual calculation after fill up.

I turned off the A/C tonight & I am averaging 25.9 mpg for the drive downtown & back to my hotel.

Got my best mileage this past weekend driving the 300 miles from Yosemite NP back to Los Angeles - 20 mpg. Mostly get 13-14 mpg driving around town. For me, driving an "X" is not about getting good gas mileage - i't failure in this regard is offset by all the other great things about it, IMHO.

I have an '02 that just turned 25K on the trip.

Hi Shanki:

___There are a ton of techniques to improve mileage but as a quick answer, our 03 really took off after ~ 5,000 miles. Just in case it is something mechanical, this should help you find out. Increase the pressure in the X-Terrain’s or Integrity’s to 35 #’s, manually place the A/C to Off, accelerate your X up to 55 – 60 mph on a stretch of wide open and flat hwy with no wind per se, set your cruise control to the same 55 – 60 mph, and most importantly, remove your feet from the accelerator and brake pedals! Now watch your instantaneous digital readout and it should fluctuate between 27.5 and 30 mpg. After 5 – 7,500 miles, you should see the X’s instantaneous fluctuating between 30 and 32.5 mpg with all of the above and no wind.

___I can usually achieve between 27 and 31 mpg on the hwy overall with an all time high of 32.8 mpg over a 281 mile all hwy stretch.

___Good Luck

I have an '03 with just over 8K on it and I have always gotten at least 22-25mpg on the freeway and 15-17mpg in the city. Your mileage does sound pretty low especially the highway number.

You should not have to turn the AC off to achieve the estimated MPG. The car is tested and the estimates are established with the AC running. Are you driving in the mountains? Are you heavy footed? Are you putting only super (93+ octane) gas in your X? If the mileage does not improve very soon I would take it back to the dealer and let them put it on the computer and see what happens.

Good luck!

On the Interstate flats, letting the cruise control meter fuel judiciously than i can, I get about 23-24 mpg without a load. The 4500 mile road trip I recently took, loaded with gear and a passenger, combined flats and traversing many mountain passes, averaged about 20.5 mpg.

In town, where I only drive about 75 -100 miles per week, virtually all up and down hills to my office and downtown, in basically stop and go traffic with most trips about 4 miles, I cannot do any better than 11.5-13 mpg with the A/C on. The A/C takes about a 1-1.5 mpg hit. The MDX is a relatively heavy car--about 4400 lbs, so figure about 4800 lbs with a full fuel tank and a driver. Stopping and starting that mass uses a large amount of energy. It is on the road that the engineering gives higher mpg via low wind resistance, accurately metered fuel via cruise control and efficient transmission.

BTW
I use 93 Octane
Flat roads city/hway
No LOAD. just me
noA/C it is winter now
no storms ie. no wind resistance

In June, I took the X to Boy Scout camp; 385 miles each way, 95% highway, in a group of ten vehicles. Four on board, with gear packed tightly, and I got 26.9 mpg averaging 60-65 mph (pacing the troop bus). This was in north GA and south TN (fairly hilly), and it was HOT. The A/C was cranked, but everyone was comfortable. When we arrived at camp, the TC still showed 100+ miles range left. Highway mileage is phenomenal :29: in a vehicle of this size and weight. We get 12-15 around town.

For me: 92 Oct

16 mpg city
24 MPG Highway

Even when I tow my boat which is roughly 2750lbs I still get 18-20mpg.....this vehicle gets tremendous mileage for the vehicle weight with the benefit of super low emissions as well.:)
