Sorry msu, nothing personal but I'm just calling them like I see them. Knight spent many a year running down campus sports editors across Big Ten country and like they say paybacks are a ____ch! All those editors and writers ended up getting jobs in the mainstream and then you throw in all regular sports writers he has berated over the years and well let's just say he reaps what he sews(sp?). Sooner or later Knight's going to run out of second, third, fifth, tenth chances and his legacy will be tarnished through nobody's fault but his own.
P.S.-I'm taking it easy here because I respect the points that you make and the perceived problems in the media concerning objectivity regarding Knight.

TT loses it's spine and shows their true colors. Knight only receives a reprimand after threatening to quit if suspended for five days. Congrats TT you've just lowered yourself to Indiana's level. Knight runs TT now since he's got the boosters in his pocket. MSU, is this what you want your boys to learn? If you bully and berate others it's okay if you're a winner.
CrankyMonkey
I was so glad when Knight got booted from IU so those of us in Big Ten country wouldn't have to see and hear about him all the time. I take that back... it should be Mr. Knight... he has a history of getting kind of pissy is you just call him "Knight." Just ask that IU student from a few years back. The better news is that my Illini finally played a road game with some grit, toughness, and heart tonight and beat the Hoosiers. :claphead: :D :claphead: Now hopefully they can keep it up and get a win in Minnesota this weekend. The Gophers may be winless in the BT this year but a trip to that barn is never easy on the road team. Go Illini:18:

Eyewitnesses said the spat was nothing to make such a big deal about! Why can't YOU admit that the media screwed up - at least ESPN did! On Sports Center last night they admitted that the incident was so insignificant that IF it had been any other coach it would not have made the news and ESPN admitted last night that the word suspension NEVER should have been used by the media. Yep, ESPN hypocrisy at full center last night - it was ESPN's website that announced a 5 day suspension and then on Sports Center they say the "S" word should never have been used.

Yep, ESPN is on public record saying that the incident was NON-News if it were any other coach. Mully I've admitted my bais of having two sons at Tech who love basketball - perhaps you should admit your bias and tell us why you hate Knight and do NOT want him to succeed in his second chance. That's it really isn't it? The media watches him like a hawk just hoping he fails - I find it pathetic:1:

My boys were too young to know anything about the chair-throwing incident or even too young to really follow the throat-grabbing incident.

They are old enought to see Knight buy out the student section for an NIT playoff game so they could get in free; they are old enough to see him forfiet salary for not making the NCAA's; they did experience the Houston Compaq Center media fiasco where he was falsely accused and received a public apology; they did experience yesterday's media explosion where Tech NEVER said anything about a suspension but did issue a repremand (and they were a little closer to the action than the rest of us were). They were taught by their parents that people can confess their sins/mistakes and get a second chance.

Yea my boys are recieving an education at Tech - they are learning that maybe the second chance story is not so true after all:confused: They are learning that some people will never forget or forgive.

Florida State must the most under rated team in the country; at least on their home floor.

The media bias that has raised your ire exists due to Knight's behavior. He gets killed in the press because of the way he has and will treat the press. Objectivity is non-existent when it comes to Knight. His track record on the court speaks for itself, he's one of the best college basketball coaches ever. However, the media can't be blamed for choking Niel Ried, throwing a chair across the court, telling Connie Chung that,"If rape is inevitable then why not enjoy it?", kicking his son on the bench during a game, not speaking to Steve Alford for ten years and then exploding on ESPN's Fran Frachilla(a former coach) when questioned about it. His lack of civility will ultimately tarnish all the good he has done as a coach and teacher. I respect the guy for his accomplishments but the way he has treated others both in the media and outside the media is inexcusable. Unless of course you are one of college basketball's winningest coaches of all time. Anyone else pull the stunts that Knight does and they would be long gone.
Now usually when someone attacks the media and says that it's all the media's fault I jump right to attention and defend the Fifth Estate(since it has put food on my table for 15 years). However, there is a bias against Knight in the media that Knight brought on himself. Is it wrong that every little episode is blown up into a national story? Sure. The question you have to ask your self msu, is why? Why is the media biased against Coach Knight?
My personal ideology regarding the press and it's role in society is much different than what is commonly practiced. Sensationalism sells, period. The truth be damned. Unfortunately, your anger of the media's treatment of Knight just sheds some light on how widespread biases in reporting have become. It is a problem that goes much deeper than just the treatment of a college basketball coach. I was taught to "comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable" all-the-while retaining my objectivity in reporting.
I think two wrongs have come together to ignite your anger towards the media. The first wrong being biases within the media. The second being a boorish bully who plays on his position of authority. Knight's attacks during news conferences combined with his off-the-court demeanor leaves the media in the position to strike back against him. Should restraint have been used in reporting this story or any story until the facts are straight? Sure. Does restraint sell newspapers or make people watch Sportscenter? No. So, we are left with a media that screams sensationalism and a coach who has a short temper. A match made in heaven if you're an editor. A nightmare for those who still practice objective journalism.

Report: NCAA, Indianapolis strike Final Four agreement
By Mark Alesia and Matthew Tully, The Indianapolis Star
INDIANAPOLIS — In a deal that could portend a new or renovated stadium for Indianapolis, the NCAA will announce today a guarantee that the city will host the men's Final Four an average of once every five years through 2039.

The NCAA not only broke from its conventional bidding process, it also promised the Indiana Sports Corp. an additional event in each of the intervening years between men's Final Fours.

The women's Final Four, men's and women's early-round tournament games and the NCAA Convention will be included in each five-year cycle.

Xavier routes #1 St. Joseph's 87-67

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/coll...ment-day2_x.htm

Saint Joseph's first game as the nation's No. 1 team was also its first loss of the season, a shocking 87-67 collapse against unranked Xavier in the Atlantic-10 quarterfinals Thursday.

The Hawks came in with a 27-0 record, three victories from becoming the first team since 1991 to enter the NCAA tournament undefeated. But they trailed Xavier by as many as 34 points, and the upset raises questions about how serious a contender the tiny Philadelphia school will be for the national championship.

That would be great.

Georgia Tech should be a heavy favorite to make the Final Four. OSU will be very tough for the Hawks.

Any OSU fans here? They have looked awesome in recent weeks, but last night, IMO, Pitt nor OSU brought their A game.

Go Xavier! Let's get two A-10 teams into the Elite Eight.

GT should beat Nevada, but Kansas will be tough (assuming they beat UAB). But one can never know; since I follow the Big 12 (two bays at TT), I know that OSU can go all the way.

I hope BJ Elder can play Sunday :( Kansas will be tough to beat w/o him.

I guess we didn't know "Jack" about the Jackets! :1: Wow Jarrett Jack stepped up big time. I've known since the pre-season NIT that these Jackets could play but I would've thought that success w/o Elder would have been unlikely. Hopefully he'll be ready next Saturday. You have such a passion for this sport you have to go to San Antonio. You can score some tickets, trust me, try ebay and lurk on some auctions. What about friends in S.A.? What I'm trying to say where there is a will there is a way. (and maybe some dollars, too). Heck if all else fails just walk right in the arena. It works maybe not the first time but usually they don't send you to jail or anything just a way to see a sporting event when getting a ticket isn't possible. You owe this to yourself, this is possibily a once in a lifetime oppurtunity. go for it!
One last idea, I haven't checked gametimes but if GT plays in the late game lurk outside the gates and score some tickets from exiting alums from the loser school of the first game.
P.S.-There are always local tickets, too. Beat the bushes you never know what will fall out.

Stars gone pro leave a void in college game
By Steve Wieberg, USA TODAY

So celebrated were the two stars, so hyped was their meeting in the championship game of the NCAA Tournament 25 years ago that the names still resonate today.
College basketball, and the NCAA Tournament in particular, never was the same after Magic Johnson and Michigan State beat Larry Bird and Indiana State that March night in 1979. The nation buzzed. A then-record television viewing audience of 18 million tuned in. The tournament was forever stamped as big time, a Super Bowl-status event.

Magic and Bird remain a testament to individual superstars' power and sway. And they're vivid reminders of what the game now lacks.

UConn and GT - a rematch of pre-season. Okafor wasnt healthy for that game. Tomorrow evening promises to be some of the best basketball we have yet to see. Being a UConn fan, there is not better satisfaction than beating Duke. Ive been savoring that win from last night but if UConn doesnt focus and get the ball to Gordon, Anderson and Brown, UConn will be in trouble.

Good luck to both teams and may the best team win.
