Picked up my new 04 MDXon Friday night. That is the good news! Drove from the showroom to my driveway, about 4 miles. The next morning, one of the rear tires was flat! Clled the dealership and they siad to call back Monday. Their service shop was off for the weekend.
Took the MDX to my local repair shop, who felt sorry for me an plugged the tire for no charge. They removed a metal stud about tow inches long from the thread.
When Acura called me back today, the Service Manager basically said tough luck! They had no way of knowing if I got the flat during my first 4 miles of ownership! They wouldn't do a thing!
I haven't had a flat in over twenty years...what a coincidence...or was the tire damaged before I got it? I'll never know...and Acura won't help... |

| Tell me, which "LUXURY" dealership is this? |

Well its considered road hazard so technically its not covered.
BUT they should at least told you to put the spare on come back and they would put a patch for free, I don't trust plugs, you shouldn't either. Then given you a nice loaner if you wanted to drop it off.
BAD customer relations. at least you know not to take it to them in the future. Call your salesperson ASAP!!!! Tell them what happened then take it to the manager and then to the owner.
BTW don't forget to rate them in our dealer ratings. |

| On a side note, what did the local repair shop said about the valve stem? Did they have to do anything different? I believe the tire monitoring sensor is on the stem so should tire work be done by Acura? |

Guys,
Thanks for the replies. It was Island Acura in Wantagh New York. At first, the Service Manager said he was going to check with the salesman to see if they could work something out. Then called back and told me to bring it in and he would plug it. (I had already had it plugged.)
Guess the "work something out with the salesman" didn't work out. Technically, I don't have a prayer but you would think they would work a better deal!
I am going to escalate this in the AM to see what my recourse might be. I have a brand new (I Love it) vehicle with a plugged tire.
Again, thanks for the feedback. It is very much appreciated.

| Didn't the tire pressure monitor tell you yesterday that the tire is low in pressure??? |

A few questions were raised about the tire pressure monitoring system. It worked as advertised...when I picked up the MDX, the tire appeared to be OK. I drove it 4 miles to my home, parked it in the driveway and left it there. The next morning, Saturday, it was flat. The TPMS worked...it showed a flat! But I found it visually anyway.
This had nothing to do with the valve stem or the TPMS. It was a simple case of a flat caused by a nail.
Now it is a matter of Cutomer Service.

Warzau's right. It's a road hazard...no warranty coverage, but you'd think you'd get some goodwill for a 4-mile pluggable/fixable flat tire.
My local Shell owner (where we fill both our cars) has plugged a couple of tires for free; he also installed my wheel locks for free(wife said she wouldn't go in the car if I did it myself -- go figure...if she only knew about what I've been doing under the X). I don't think I've spent $40k with him. Certainly not all at once, anyway :)
Pretty ballsy of them since you haven't yet received your customer sat survey from Acura corporate. Rate accordingly. |

| This happened to us 2 years ago when my husband bought a Chevy Avalanche. Drove 60 miles home and next morning discovered a huge bubble on the side of the front tire. However, believe it or not the Chevy dealership felt horrible and replaced the tire without a fuss. Guess Acura could take some pointers. |

It's all about customer service and from what I've read, some of these dealers could care less.....just make the sale and move on to the next customer.
I haven't had any similar problems with the X, however, my Volvo dealer has, in the past, just give me new Michelins when I've had flats within the first year. Not sure if it was covered under the warranty, just happy to have them do it. |

All,
As a follow up..I called the Sales person yesterday and left him a "come to Jesus" message...after reading all your supportive posts. To summarize, I told him that I expected a new tire...and not a stop-gap solution. Also, I dropped the "AcuraMDX forum" name in there a few times to let him know that whatever we settle on will be reviewed by a larger audience.
He called me a few minutes ago and told me to come back for a new tire! Guess they put their customer service hat back on.....or maybe there was a mix-up (yeah right!)
As I have to say is thanks to all for your suggestions......they worked!
Now I can get back to enjoying my new MDX....
Thanks all! |
