Hello,
Well had my MDX now for 5 days, and have experienced noises coming from the right rear area by the subwoofer. It sounds like something is loose even with the bass controls on the stereo turned way down and the stereo at normal listening levels. I took it back to the dealer the day after I bought it and they "supposedly" added more insulation around that area. Didn't really notice it again until a couple days later. I guess it is time to take it back again...
Anyone else have noises / vibration coming from the same area??

| Not until I upgraded the sound system. The new sub/amp is making it rattle back there pretty good. Have about two bags of polyfoam back there, but it STILL rattles. Ugh. |

Yeah, I get rattling from that area also. I think mine rattles because I accidently broke off one of the clips on the rear panel when I was installing my amplified antannae.

| I had a similar problem and when I took it to the dealer they said that the X's have been having subwoofers crackling (going bad) so he replaced it under warranty. You may still be having vibration noises, but it could also be a bad speaker. |

I'll be damned if I am going to spend 40K+ on a vehicle and then have to spend more money to fix a flaw that should be fixed by Acura. I have had the MDX for one week as of today. I will keep going back again and again if I have to in order to get this flaw fixed.
I believe American Honda will fix it if they know that this is a problem that needs to be addressed.

Had the same problem with the rattle on the sub and brought a copy of this thread and showed it to my dealer. Was told that they made some adjustments and asked me to listen to it before I drive off. I was not pleased as it was about the same as before I brought it in. They suggested to replace the sub but would have to order the part. On checking further, they found a brand new unsold X on the lot that just came in. So they again suggested to try replacing mine with the one coming from the new X and I agreed as this would save me time in coming back when the ordered part comes in. While they took out the old part, I also saw that there were already insulation at the back. Maybe not as much as other people would put in but still a good indication that Acura seems to be aware of this particular problem and trying to find a fix to it. AW, after the replacement, I was really surprised to find the rattle gone, distortion and all of the sub, non existent.
I suggest to other people who have the same problem and do not want to spend too much money in replacing this with a better after market unit, to try having their sub replaced for free under warranty. |

| So the problem is with Sub or the panel ? |

I brought this up in another thread a few weeks ago. There's no doubt the sub they include is a POS. For an additional $5 a vehicle they could have put in a sub with a poly cone instead of whatever that sprayed-on material is....or at least put in a paper one.
Did you listen to the outside of the vehicle ? That seems to be where most of my noise is coming from. Songs with low bass response are the worst making the RR quarter panel and the rear license plate sing. That's going to happen when it's mounted inside the trim panel. Remember, sound gets to us because molecules are bumping into each other. That sub is mounted tightly against the back of that enclosure.
The sound is still nothing like my old Reliant in which I had about 300 watts of clean power driving nothing but two 10" ported subs in a giant box. I really thought my trunklid might blow off when I had it cranked. When I finally donated the car to charity, I noticed that the rear quarter panels had little tiny dents where there was no reinforcement of a body crease.
Having a window or the roof cracked seems to help relieve the pressure. It also makes it a bit louder. :D |

| Went to the dealer today so he can have a listen and he said that's the way the MDX audio sounds. He actually said not to listen to Club music so loud. I'm going to replace the subwoofer which should I get ? 8" or 10" ? |

10" but unless you get an amp to run the subwoofer I think you will be sadly disappointed IMHO. |

Where's the stock amp located ? can I put it there or will I need to place it in the headrest storage compartment. |

Gladiator,
The stock amp is in the same compartment the sub is located in. You probably cannot put a reasonably decent amp in that space. You could put an amp in the headrest compartment or under the seats depending on size of the amp. |
